This article covers:

Prerequisites to using Zoom Phone Certified Hardware

Encryption

Zoom Phone supports secure voice calls for connections between the Zoom Cloud and the Zoom desktop client, mobile app, web browser/client, and supported SIP devices. During call setup, Zoom Phone uses SIP over TLS 1.2 with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithm for these connections. The Zoom desktop client, mobile app, and web browser/client connections encrypt call media to the Zoom Cloud using SRTP with AES 256-bit encryption algorithm. SIP devices configured with SRTP use AES-128 or AES-256 bit algorithm to encrypt call media for connections to the Zoom Cloud, otherwise, unencrypted RTP is used as a fallback.

Important: By default, AES-128-bit encryption is enabled for call media transmitted by supported SIP devices. Admins can upgrade devices to AES-256-bit encryption using the web portal. Fax lines may not support full encryption. Learn more about Zoom Phone encryption.

Grandstream

Due to the enhanced security requirement, the Zoom Phone provision server does not support any endpoints factory certificates with MD5 along with some other limitations. Hence there are older hardware versions of the listed Grandstream models that might not support Zoom Phone-assisted provisioning.

The following Grandstream devices have been verified to support the required certificates and encryption for Zoom Phone service:

Notes:

Check the hardware version number of your Grandstream desk phone

  1. On the back of your device, identify the barcode on the label of the device.
  2. In the P/N number, identify the last 6-digit number.
The first 3 digits of that number will be the hardware version number. For example, if the P/N is 962-00113-15A001, then the 15A will be the hardware version and stands for V1.5.

Poly

Notes:

  • Provisioned Poly devices will automatically upgrade to the latest supported firmware version. Set up firmware update rules if you don't want Poly devices to automatically upgrade.
  • Zoom only works with Polycom devices that are running at least version 4.0.0 of the UCS firmware. In previous versions (Polycom SIP software 3.x or earlier), upgrading from the phone's web interface, registration, and provisioning will not work with Zoom. This restriction does not apply to OBi Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA).
  • Polycom VVX OBi edition phones are not supported. The only exception is the VVX D230, which has OBi firmware but is still supported by Zoom Phone.
  • VVX 250/350/450 come with two firmware versions depending on the hardware revision (Old or New). Please review the Poly Product Shipping Configuration Change Notice for more detailed information about new hardware revisions.
  • The USB port for storage is disabled by default on Poly Edge E series devices to prevent inadvertent misuse.

  • Note (B): These models do not support SIP video.
  • Note (C): Yealink devices manufactured before 2019 are not compatible with Zoom Phone encryption and certificate security requirements. The device will fail Zoom Phone provisioning, even if it was added to the account manually or in bulk.

Check the manufacturing date of a Yealink phone

Some models of Yealink devices manufactured before 2019 will not be compatible with Zoom. By following these steps, you can easily determine the manufacturing date of your Yealink phone.

  1. Locate the serial number. You can find the serial number on the label, box, or within the user interface of the device.
  2. Determine the manufacturing year:
    • For phones manufactured before or during 2021:
      1. Look at the 6th and 7th digits of the serial number. These two digits represent the last two digits of the manufacturing year.
      2. For example, for the serial number 312921805020XXXX, the 6th and 7th digits are 18, indicating the phone was manufactured in 2018.
    • For phones manufactured in 2021 or later:
      1. Look for a letter in the serial number. This letter represents the manufacturing year.
      2. For example, for the serial number 808040D04000XXXX, the letter D indicates the phone was manufactured in 2021.

Notes:

  • Check the firmware and device certificate versions before proceeding to device provisioning.
  • Check the ATA has the latest supported firmware version below, by following the upgrade process.
  • Due to the enhanced security requirement, the Zoom Phone provision server requires the HT8xx to support Generation 2 (Gen 2) certificate using ECDSA + SHA 384. Verify your ATA unit has the updated Gen 2 device factory certificate installed.
  • HT812/814/818 have 2 ethernet ports (WAN and LAN). For device provisioning under Zoom Phone web portal page, be sure to specify the MAC address value by using the LAN MAC address value (not the WAN MAC address) from the unit.
  • When entering the provision/config server URL path under ADVANCE SETTINGS>Firmware Upgrade and Provisioning>Config Server Path, make sure to specify the URL WITHOUT the https:// on the front.

Upgrade an ATA Grandstream firmware

  1. Log in to the ATA web page.
  2. Under the STATUS page, select Software Version, then Prog.
  3. Download the firmware below if you have an older version.
  4. Select the ADVANCE SETTINGS page, Upload Firmware, then Upload from local directory.
  5. Follow the remaining steps to complete the upgrade process.

Verify Grandstream unit has the updated Gen 2 device factory certificate installed

  1. Log in to the device web page.
  2. Under the STATUS page, select Individual Certificate Generation.
  3. Verify the certificate name is GEN 2 (SHA-384 + ECDSA).
    • If it isn't the correct name, proceed to the Grandstream guide.
    • If it's the correct name, proceed to the Zoom Phone device provisioning.

Find an ATA Grandstream LAN MAC address value

  1. Log in to the ATA web page.
  2. Select the STATUS page.
  3. On the top of the page, find the LAN MAC (Device MAC) address value.

Pagers and intercom

Cloud paging is supported on all Zoom-certified output devices such as SIP speakers, SIP horns, paging adapters, and Visual Alerters from both Cyberdata and Algo.
Note: Algo and Cyberdata Paging Adapter & IP speaker/horn devices/Visual Alerter do not support the Cloud Paging's Emergency Paging overwriting Standard Paging feature. Therefore, Algo and Cyberdata Paging Adapter & IP speaker/horn devices/Visual Alerter will treat all Cloud Paging as a standard page.
