Configuring audio for music and singing

The Original sound for musicians and Live performance audio profiles allow for greater preservation of audio received from your microphone without using Zoom's echo cancellation and audio filters. These are ideal if your microphone or sound equipment has these features built-in or if you are wanting to preserve the full range of sound from a musical instrument.

When enabling original sound feature in the Zoom Workplace app, you will also have greater control over:

Enabling the Live performance audio profile reduces audio latency even further, but requires better audio equipment and network connection. 

Once you have enabled either audio profile in the app, you can enable this setting in your meetings as needed.

How to enable an advanced audio profile in a meeting

You can to enable or disable audio profiles during a meeting as needed.

How to use original sound in a Zoom meeting

If you enable Original sound for musicians in a meeting, all noise suppression is disabled. If you disable Original sound for musicians, the app reverts to the noise suppression setting that you chose in your app settings, meaning it could be Auto / Low / Med / High.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Start or join a meeting.
  3. Connect to meeting audio with the Computer Audio option.
  4. In the meeting controls toolbar, next to the Audio icon , click the up arrow icon
  5. Click Audio settings....
    Your desktop app settings window will open.
  6. Under the Audio Profile section, select Original sound for musicians.
  7. Select the audio options you want to use:
    • High-fidelity music mode: This disables echo cancellation & post-processing, while raising audio codec quality to 48Khz, 96Kbps mono/192kbps stereo. Professional audio interface, microphone, and headphones required.
    • Echo cancellation: Prevents echoes between mic and speakers. Disable only recommended when using headphones to isolate audio or when playing instruments.
    • Stereo audio: Encodes mic audio in stereo. Requires a stereo-capable microphone or audio interface.
  8. Close the Settings window to return to the meeting.
    In the top-right corner of the meeting window, the current status of the Original sound for musicians feature is indicated. Click the status message to turn it on or off. 

How to use live performance audio in a Zoom meeting

All participants in the meeting must have this audio profile enabled during the live meeting, otherwise the improved latency is not achievable. 

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Start or join a meeting.
  3. Connect to meeting audio with the Computer Audio option.
  4. In the meeting controls toolbar, next to the Audio icon , click the up arrow icon
  5. Click Audio settings....
    Your desktop app settings window will open.
  6. Under the Audio Profile section, select Live performance audio.
  7. Close the Settings window to return to the meeting.
    In the top-right corner of the meeting window, the current status of the Live performance audio feature is indicated. Click the status message to turn it on or off.

How to use original sound in a Zoom meeting

Original audio is the only advanced audio profile available on the Zoom mobile app. Once enabled in your mobile app settings, you can enable or disable it during a Zoom meeting from your mobile app.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom mobile app.
  2. Start or join a meeting.
  3. Connect to meeting audio with Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  4. In the meeting controls toolbar, tap More  .
  5. Tap Enable original sound   .
