Zoom system requirements: Windows, macOS, Linux

This article lists the requirements for using the Zoom desktop app on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

System requirements

An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE)
Speakers and a microphone – built-in, USB plug-in, or wireless Bluetooth
A webcam or HD webcam - built-in, USB plug-in, or:
- An HD cam or HD camcorder with a video-capture card

- Virtual camera software for use with broadcasting software like OBS or IP cameras

Windows:
- Windows 11
- Windows 10
  Note: Devices running Windows 10 must run Windows 10 Home, Pro, or Enterprise. S Mode is not supported.
macOS:
- macOS X (10.15) or later
Linux:
- Ubuntu 20.04 or higher
- Mint 20 or higher
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0 or higher
- Oracle Linux 9.0 or higher
- CentOS 9 or higher
- Fedora 32 or higher
- OpenSUSE 16 or higher
- Debian 11 or higher
- ArchLinux (64-bit only)
- Other Linux OS with GCC 9.4 or higher

Notes:

On Windows and macOS devices, Zoom utilizes WebView2 (version 109.0.15.18.49 or higher) and Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) for certain features. If not available, these are downloaded automatically by Zoom, but admins should ensure these are whitelisted on managed devices.
Starting with the 6.0.0 release:
- The Zoom Workplace desktop app no longer supports Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. The Zoom Workplace app 5.17.11 release is the last version available for operating systems below Windows 10.
Starting with the 7.0.0 release:
- The Zoom Workplace desktop app no longer supports macOS 10.13 or 10.14. The Zoom Workplace app 6.7.7 release is the last version available for operating systems below macOS 10.15.
- The Zoom Workplace desktop app no longer supports the following Linux distributions: CentOS 8, Oracle Linux 8, Red Hat 8, Ubuntu 18.04, Fedora 27–31, Debian 10, and OpenSuSE 15. The Zoom Workplace app 6.7.5 release is the last version available for those Linux distributions.

Supported tablet devices

Surface PRO 2 or higher, running Windows 8.1 or higher
Notes:
Tablet PCs running Windows 10 must run Windows 10 Home, Pro, or Enterprise. S Mode is not supported.
Tablet PCs only support the desktop app.

Supported web browsers

Desktop
- Chrome: Within the current and past 2 versions
- Firefox: Within the current and past 2 versions
- Edge: Within the current and past 2 versions
- Safari: Within the current and past 2 versions
Mobile
- Safari: Within the current and past 2 versions
- Chrome: Within the current and past 2 versions
- Firefox: Within the current and past 2 versions

As an example, if the current version of Chrome is 111, then Zoom supports versions 109, 110, and 111. As new versions are released, the minimum version will also be followed behind by 2 versions.

Processor, RAM, and CPU bit requirements

Notes:

Dual and single-core laptops have a reduced frame rate when screen sharing (around 5 frames per second). For optimum screen-sharing performance on laptops, we recommend a quad-core processor or higher.
Linux requires a processor or graphics card that can support OpenGL 2.0 or higher.
We recommend installing the same Zoom desktop app bit version based on your computer's CPU bit spec. For example, if your computer spec is 64-bit, we recommend using the 64-bit version of the Zoom desktop app.
We don't recommend the 32-bit Zoom desktop app for users who want to use the whole Zoom ecosystem (chat, meetings, zoom phone, whiteboard, etc.).

Bandwidth requirements

The bandwidth used by Zoom will be optimized for the best experience based on the participant‘s’ network. It will automatically adjust for 3/4/5G, WiFi, or wired networks.

Zoom Meetings and Zoom Webinars

Recommended bandwidth for meetings and webinar panelists:

For 1:1 video calling:
- For high-quality video: 600kbps (up/down)
- For 720p HD video: 1.2Mbps (up/down)
- For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
For group video calling:
- For high-quality video: 1.0 Mbps/600kbps (up/down)
- For 720p HD video: 2.6Mbps/1.8Mbps (up/down)
- For 1080p HD video: 3.8Mbps/3.0Mbps (up/down)
- For gallery view receiving: 2.0Mbps (25 views), 4.0Mbps (49 views)
For screen sharing only (no video thumbnail): 50-75kbps
For screen sharing with video thumbnail: 50-150kbps
For audio VoiP: 60-80kbps
