Zoom Rooms Devices and Phone Appliances End-of-Life Support Guideline

To assist customers’ transition from legacy products to newer technology and next-generation solutions, Zoom has established an End-of-Life Support Guideline for certified Zoom Rooms devices and Zoom Phone appliances approaching or within their respective end-of-life policy from hardware manufacturers.

These guidelines apply to the following Zoom certified devices:

The period of support for Zoom Certified Hardware varies based on hardware, the software platform, and operating systems running on that device. The estimated lifespan is typically 6-8 years from the initial hardware release date.

The Zoom End-of-Life support Guideline sets out estimated milestones and timeline for certified devices nearing the end of life.

This article covers:

Understanding End-of-Sale and End-of-Life

End-of-Sale: The date that the device will no longer be available for purchase from the hardware manufacturer.

Zoom End-of-Life: No software updates with new or enhanced features or support for that device will be released unless there is a patch release (EP) to fix vulnerabilities or security issues.

End-of-Life scenarios

Several scenarios may lead to the End-of-Sale and End-of-Life support for hardware-manufacturer certified devices:

Hardware manufacturer announces a product has reached End-of-Sale

The End-of-Sale date is the date that specific device will no longer be available for purchase from the hardware manufacturer. Once a hardware manufacturer publicly announces a device’s End-of-Sale date, Zoom will publish the End-of-Sale date on the Zoom support website and initiate the Zoom End-of-Life timeline.

Hardware manufacturers may announce an End-of-Sale date for specific products for various reasons, such as hardware limitations that may result in a certified device no longer meeting Zoom’s minimum system requirements for certification, product component discontinuation, supply issues, and/or new product introduction.

Mandatory security or Zoom system requirement updates

In the event a hardware manufacturer is unable or unwilling to implement Zoom-mandated security or operating system update, Zoom may commence the End-of-Life timeline. Zoom plans to provide a sufficient notice period to hardware manufacturers before products reach End-of-Life unless there are critical security vulnerabilities or concerns, in which case Zoom may accelerate the End-of-Life timeline.

Zoom software support for End-of-Sale devices

Zoom currently releases software updates on a quarterly basis. Aligned to this quarterly release timeline, the final feature update for an End-of-Sale device should occur approximately 15 months after the hardware manufacturer's End-of-Sale date (barring events that force an accelerated timeline). Any software maintenance updates are planned to exclude any new features (based on the final feature update release) and may only address urgent and critical issues that need to be addressed immediately or security-related issues.

The Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy incrementally changes the minimum required Zoom software version every three months, with a goal of supporting a given version of the Zoom software for at least fifteen (15) months before that version of the software is considered end-of- life, at which point customers will be prompted to update to the minimum version or higher.

Zoom may release maintenance updates based on the final feature version for an End-of-Sale device. Such a maintenance update would exclude any new features and would only address security issues or critical issues that affect core functionality. Such a maintenance update shall not be considered a “new” version of the Zoom software for purposes of the Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy minimum version requirement.

End-of-Sale devices will continue to receive updates until the final supported release (15 months) with the period of time after which a particular Zoom software release (i.e the final supported release) will be considered end of life (15 months). Combining the period of time during which an End-of-Sale device will reach the end of its useful life approximately 30 months after its End-of-Sale date.
