Tracking encryption changes in Zoom Mail

Zoom Mail Service users can choose to be notified when a recipient’s encryption key has changed, which can help prompt users to reach out to the recipient through another method, confirming the change is to be expected and that there is no security risk with this change.

Additionally, users assigning delegated access will automatically have the encryption key change notification enabled for each delegated user.

Prerequisites for tracking encryption changes in Zoom Mail

How to track encryption changes in the Zoom Mail client

Track a contact's encryption changes

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
  2. Click the Mail tab .
  3. In the top-left corner, click the compose email icon , or click to open an email you want to reply to or forward.
Drafting a new email will open a new email window in the bottom-right corner, while replying to or forwarding an email will open the compose box below the received email.
  4. Add recipients as needed to your email draft.
  5. (Optional) Click the Cc and/or Bcc options to add additional recipients in those fields.
  6. Right-click a recipient, then click View Details.
A pop-up window will appear, displaying the contact's information.
  7. In the window, click the Track fingerprint toggle to enable or disable it.
When enabled, you can track the contact’s fingerprint on a device basis.

Additionally, when the Track fingerprint toggle is activated, information on the last time the fingerprint was changed is invisible in the contact's pop-up window.

When you track a recipient's fingerprint and you attempt to send an email to that person (whose fingerprint ID has changed), you will be alerted with a modal and given the option to cancel or acknowledge and confirm their new fingerprint ID before sending the message.

Note: When composing a message, you will need to confirm the acknowledgment of a user's new fingerprint ID before sending the message.

Track your individual encryption changes

When your fingerprint changes and you click View Activity on the notification message, you will be automatically directed to the devices page to manage approved devices.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
  2. Click the Mail tab .
If your fingerprint has changed, a message will appear, alerting you that your fingerprint has changed.
  3. In the message, click View Activity on the toast.
You will be automatically directed to the Activity page.
  4. On the Activity page, manage approved devices.
  5. To the left of the devices you want to revoke, select the devices' checkboxes, then click Remove.
The devices will sign out and not have access to encrypted voicemail, email, and chat. If you don’t recognize a device, change your password.
