Getting started with Zoom AI Companion features

Zoom AI Companion, your generative-AI digital assistant, delivers powerful, real-time capabilities to help users improve productivity and work together more effectively. Zoom customers can expect to see AI Companion throughout the Zoom platform, with features available for products including Meetings, Team Chat, Mail, Phone, and more.

Feature availability

Zoom AI Companion is included at no additional cost for customers with the paid services assigned to their Zoom user accounts. For example, Zoom AI Companion features for Meetings are available to users provisioned with paid Meetings services. However, for a customer with paid users only provisioned with Zoom Phone services, such as paid users without paid Zoom Meetings services, those users will get AI Companion features for Zoom Phone, but not for Meetings.

If you are a Zoom Workplace paid user, you get AI Companion capabilities for all services included in your Zoom Workplace license.

For customers with standalone Zoom Meetings, Zoom Phone, Zoom Revenue Accelerator, or Zoom Contact Center paid services, your paid users will also get, at no additional cost, AI Companion features for Zoom Team Chat.

Basic (free) users, including those in paid accounts, will not have access to AI Companion features.* Upgrade to a paid account or license for access to these features.

AI Companion may not be available for select verticals and select regional customers.

*Note: Basic (free) users may still have access to some AI Companion features such as for Zoom Team Chat Compose on an interim basis.

Information for healthcare and education customers

Healthcare and education customers have unique industry-specific data security and privacy concerns. As such, for those customers with BAAs in place with Zoom, certain AI Companion features will be made available once the necessary HIPAA compliance is provided for these features.

Using Zoom AI Companion

In Zoom Meetings

During a live meeting, the host can enable Meeting summary to create a summary of the meeting from the time it’s enabled. The summary is automatically shared with the host and can be shared with other participants by email and through Team Chat, if continuous meeting chat is available for the meeting.


With AI Companion questions enabled, AI Companion can also answer questions about the meeting, including the option to summarize the meeting thus far or ask specific questions.

With Smart Recording enabled, cloud recordings are automatically organized into chapters and highlights are generated, which can be shared and seen by others.

In Team Chat

Use AI Companion to compose messages by using context from your conversation, as well as adjusting tone, providing topic prompts, or changing the length of the message to give you confidence in what you’re communicating.

AI Companion can also help summarize chat threads , quickly catching you up on long discussions in chat while you were focused elsewhere..

Write messages more efficiently by allowing AI Companion to suggest words to complete your sentence, tapping Tab to quickly accept the suggestions. 

In Zoom Mail

Using context from your conversation, as well as adjustments for tone and length, AI Companion can compose emails for you.

In Zoom Whiteboards

Based on the prompt provided or the content already available, let AI Companion generate content for your Whiteboard.

In Zoom Events

AI Companion can help you generate content, such event descriptions, session descriptions, speaker bios, lobby announcements, and more, when creating a new event. 

Create unique images to use in your event by letting AI generate a custom image. 

Zoom Events participants can use AI Companion to compose chat messages for the lobby chat

Zoom Events hosts can also get help with composing the email body, subject lines, titles, and calls to action, using context from your Zoom Event description and/or providing a more specific prompt.

In Zoom Phone

Use Call summary with AI Companion during a phone conversation, no need to worry about taking notes and being unable to focus on the conversation. You can use the Summarize functionality to gather information most important to you. Once the call ends, the summary is automatically shared with you in the Zoom app and web portal, giving you the ability to edit it as you see fit.

Use Voicemail Tasks with AI Companion to quickly access a summarized list of tasks derived from your voicemail transcription to promptly identify important tasks.

Use Voicemail Prioritization with AI Companion to define a topic or intent to assist you in managing your voicemails. The system will use your defined topic or intent to organize your incoming voicemails in order of priority.

Use Team SMS thread summary with AI Companion to allow members of your call queues and auto-receptionists to summarize their SMS threads with Zoom AI Companion to quickly understand the conversation and generate their response.

In Zoom Clips

Use Generate title description and tags with AI Companion to help users create titles, descriptions, and tags based on the audio transcript of their clips.

In Zoom Docs

Use Docs content generation and revision with AI Companion to generate and revise content, and create new meeting summary docs from templates using existing transcripts.

Use Docs sentence completion with AI Companion to provide predictive suggestions while writing content.

In Zoom Contact Center

While in an active messaging engagement (web or in-app chat), agents can view a summary generated for the current engagement.

While in an active voice engagement, agents can view speech metrics above the in-call controls.

While in an active messaging engagement (web or in-app chat), agents can generate action items after an engagement.

While in an active messaging engagement, agents can view the customer sentiment in the top panel above the conversation.

While in an active messaging engagement, agents can generate a message response to the customers.

Note on Data Usage

Zoom does not use any customer audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments or other communications-like content (such as poll results, whiteboard and reactions) to train Zoom’s or its third-party AI models.

We evaluate and update our models periodically and those used to support Zoom AI Companion may change from time to time. For features in AI Companion that use third-party AI model providers, we will share relevant data with those third-parties when you use the feature. Data may be processed within U.S. based data centers.
