Using Jira with Zoom Whiteboard
Zoom Whiteboard allows users to create, import, and manage Jira issues directly from the whiteboard. With Zoom Whiteboard, teams can easily assign tasks, set due dates, and track progress in a centralized location while leveraging the benefits of Jira's robust project management capabilities. This article will explore the various ways in which Zoom Whiteboard and Jira can work together to streamline team collaboration and increase productivity.

How to install the Jira app from the Zoom Marketplace
If your admin has installed the Jira app, the app will automatically be installed and available to you in the client.
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click Import Jira issues.
- Click Zoom Marketplace.
- Click Add.
- Confirm the permissions the app requires, and then choose Allow.
After installing the app from the Zoom Marketplace, you will be redirected to the Connect to Jira page. - Configure the Application Link.
- Enter your company’s Jira domain, and then click Connect.
You will be redirected to Jira to confirm the connection. Once complete, you and your users will be able to configure their own notifications/subscriptions.
How to connect your Jira account in Zoom Whiteboard
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click Import Jira issues.
- In the Import Jira Issues as Cards dialog box, click Log into Jira Cloud.
- Select a Jira site and then click Connect.
A new tab will open. - Click Connect.
- Click Allow to grant Jira app read and write access to your data.
- Click Confirm.
A success message will appear. In your whiteboard canvas, you will see the Select Issues dialog box where you can import the Jira issues.
How to create a Jira issue from Zoom Whiteboard
Follow the steps below to create a Jira issue from the Zoom Whiteboard.
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click Import Jira Issues.
- At the top of the Select Issues pop-up window, click New Jira Issue.
- Fill out the required fields to create a Jira issue:
- Summary: A brief but descriptive title for the issue.
- Project: Choose a specific workspace where a team or group of users collaborate on a set of related tasks, issues, or initiatives.
- Issue Type: Choose the category or type of work item being tracked in Jira. Examples of issue types in Jira include bug, task, story, epic, and sub-task.
- Priority: Choose from Highest, High, Medium, and Low to identify the level of urgency or importance for the issue.
- Description: A detailed explanation of the issue.
- Reporter: The name of the person reporting the issue.
- Security Owner: The person responsible for ensuring the issue doesn't pose any security risks.
- Task Type: The type of issue, such as new feature, UX enhancement, security enhancement, and technical enhancement.
- Platform OS (multiple selections): The operating system(s) affected by the issue.
- Provide information on the right-side panel:
- Assign a color code for the Jira issue.
- Search for assignee.
- Enter a due date.
- Click Done.
How to import Jira issues
Follow the steps below to import Jira issues to the Zoom Whiteboard.
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click Import Jira Issues.
- Customize the associated settings.
- Click Save.
- In the Select Issues pop-up window, click the check box next to the Jira issue you want to import. You can select and import multiple issues by clicking multiple check boxes.
- Click Import.
Jira issues will be imported to the whiteboard as Jira cards.
Jira import settings
- Project: Choose a specific workspace where a team or group of users collaborate on a set of related tasks, issues, or initiatives.
- Issue type: Choose the category or type of work item being tracked in Jira. Examples of issue types in Jira include bug, task, story, epic, and sub-task.
- After selecting an issue type, the corresponding available status and field details will be shown. Below are some actions you can take:
- Assign a color to visually group similar Jira statuses by clicking on a Jira status.
- Display any custom fields by toggling the switch next to them when importing the Jiras.
Note: Jira status and field options will differ depending on the particular issue type you have selected.
Import Jira issues using Jira Query Language (JQL)
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click Import Jira Issues.
- In the Select Issues pop-up window, click Switch to JQL.
- Enter your query in the JQL Query field.
- Click Import.
How to add a new Jira card
Follow the steps below to create a new Jira card on the Zoom Whiteboard.
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More Tools icon .
- Click Card, and then click New Jira Card.
- Fill out the required fields for the Jira card.
- Click Done.
How to edit a Jira card
Follow the steps below to edit a Jira card created or imported from Jira to the Zoom Whiteboard.
- Create or open a whiteboard.
- Add a new Jira card or import Jira issues.
- Click the Jira card to open the selection toolbar. In the selection toolbar, you can do the following:
- Click the Expand icon to view and edit issue details including summary, project type, priority, and description.
On the right side, you will see other Jira details such as the color code, assignee, due date, and status. - Click the Linkout icon to open the issue in Jira.
- Click the Color icon to visually group related issues.
- Click the Lock icon to prevent other users from modifying the Jira card details.
- Click the ellipses icon to perform the following actions:
- Copy: Copy the selected card.
- Copy as image: Copy the selected card as an image which can then be shared or pasted into applications that support images.
- Paste: Place the copied card somewhere else on the whiteboard.
- Duplicate: Make an exact copy of the selected card.
- Bring Forward: Move the selected card up one layer.
- Bring to Front: Put the selected card on the top layer.
- Send Backward: Move the selected card back one layer.
- Send to back: Put the selected card on the bottom layer.
- Add Comment: Add comments directly to the card.
- Save as Template: Save the selected card as a template. Users can use the saved template to create a new whiteboard.
- Info: Show the creator and last editor of the selected card.
- Lock: Lock card to prevent other users with edit access from accidentally modifying the whiteboard content.
- Delete: Delete the selected card.
Note: You can also right-click on the Jira card to perform the actions above.
