Activating SMS for BYOC phone numbers
Native SMS and MMS on BYOC numbers are now supported. With this feature, users can enable SMS and MMS service on US and Canada phone numbers provided by their telephony provider to use with Zoom Phone. Messaging is activated at the number level, users can choose the exact numbers they want to activate for SMS. With this feature, admins can do the following:
- Turn on BYOC SMS on their US/CA BYOC phone numbers either individually or in bulk.
- Enjoy the same rates for domestic and international SMS as Zoom’s native service. Pricing will be per message sent.
Notes:
- Since Zoom will be responsible for providing SMS/MMS to the customer, an LOA (Letter of Authorization) is required per number on which SMS is required to be enabled. This will be an electronic LOA that the customer will need to sign as a part of the activation process.
- The SMS service will also need to comply with 10DLC campaign registration guidelines.
- The activation process for SMS on BYOC numbers with LOA and campaign registration takes up to one business day after successfully completing the activation steps.
- At this time, SMS cannot be activated for US/CA toll-free numbers, non-US/CA BYOC numbers, non-US/CA Zoom native phone numbers, and US/CA toll numbers for which 10DLC campaign registration is pending.

Before this step, ensure that you share a signed letter of authorization with Zoom’s number management team, listing all the numbers you want to activate SMS. The template can be requested from the Zoom number management team through a support ticket. Once this has been completed, you can then use Zoom’s APIs to assign phone numbers to SMS campaigns and activate SMS on the numbers.
Note: Please ensure that the API is used only after the LOA has been submitted.
