Basic authentication for Microsoft Exchange Online (O365) services, including Exchange Web Services, will no longer be available starting October 1, 2022, unless you contact Microsoft to opt out. Detailed information on the change is available here. Zoom users currently using Basic authentication can update their existing O365 calendar integration settings with its replacement authentication method (OAuth 2.0) to continue using the calendar integration with O365. This impacts the Calendar and Contacts integration for the Zoom desktop and mobile clients, Zoom Rooms, Cisco/Polycom rooms, and Workspaces.

Note: Follow the instructions in this article to check your current settings if you are not sure what type of authentication is in place. If you are already using OAuth 2.0 for your Office 365 integration, no change is required.

Prerequisites for updating to OAuth 2.0 Authentication

• Calendar and Contacts integration for the Zoom client (individual user)
  • Existing Office 365 integration configured using basic authentication
  • Sign in credentials for your Office 365 account
• Zoom Rooms, Cisco/Polycom rooms, and Workspaces
  • Administrator role with edit access to the Zoom Room, Cisco/Polycom room and/or Workspace calendar integrations on the web portal 
  • Office 365 sign in credentials for the dedicated service account user
• Requiring OAuth 2.0 for an entire account
  • Account owner or administrator role with access to Account settings. 

Note: A Zoom account administrator may need to preconfigure Zoom and Microsoft settings to grant the Zoom Azure AD application for calendar integration consent to be used in your Microsoft O365 tenant. This requires a Zoom account owner or administrator role with access to Zoom Account settings.  It also requires a Microsoft O365 Global Administrator or Privileged Role Administrator, for granting consent for Azure AD apps, or a custom directory role that includes the permission to grant permissions to Azure AD applications, for the permissions required by the application.

How to update the Office 365 integration settings for the Zoom client

If you need to update the Office 365 integration as an individual user, follow these steps:

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Profile, if necessary, then scroll down the page and find the Others
3. Under Calendar and Contacts Integration, click Edit next to the email address.
   Note: You should see Microsoft’s blue window icon next to your email if you are using Office 365. 
4. Click Office 365, then click Next. 
5. Check Authorize with OAuth 2.0, if necessary.
   Note: If Authorize with OAuth 2.0 is already checked, then you are already using OAuth 2.0 for authentication, and may click Cancel.  You are not using Basic authentication and do not need to take any other action.
6. Click Authorize.
7. Sign in with the credentials you use for Office 365.
   Note: Depending on Zoom and O365 account configuration performed by your administrator, you may be prompted to accept permissions requested by Zoom to access your calendar after authenticating. Click Accept to proceed.

How to update the Office 365 integration settings for room systems

Updating the calendar integration for Zoom Rooms

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Room Management, then click Calendar Integration.
3. Review your list of calendar services and take note of all services that have Office365 in the Type
4. Click Reauthorize next to the first Office 365 calendar service. 
5. Check Authorize with OAuth 2.0, if necessary.
   Note: If Authorize with OAuth 2.0 is already checked, then you are already using OAuth 2.0 for authentication, and may click Cancel.  You are not using Basic authentication and do not need to take any other action for this particular calendar service. 
6. Click Authorize.
7. Authenticate to Office 365 as the dedicated service account user you use for the calendar integration. 
   Note: Depending on Zoom and O365 account configuration performed by your administrator, you may be prompted to accept permissions requested by Zoom to access your calendar after authenticating. Click Accept to proceed.
8. Repeat steps 3-7 for each Office 365 calendar service, if you have more than one.  

Updating the calendar integration for Cisco/Polycom rooms 

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Room Management, then click Cisco/Polycom Rooms.
3. Click the tab for Calendar Integration.
4. Review your list of calendar services and take note of all services that have Office 365 in the Type
5. Click the ellipsis (...) next to the first Office 365 calendar service, then select Reauthorize from the menu. 
6. Check Authorize with OAuth 2.0, if necessary.
   Note: If Authorize with OAuth 2.0 is already checked, then you are already using OAuth 2.0 for authentication, and may click Cancel.  You are not using Basic authentication and do not need to take any other action for this particular calendar service. 
7. Click Authorize.
8. Authenticate to Office 365 as the dedicated service account user you use for calendar integration. 
   Note: Depending on Zoom and O365 account configuration performed by your administrator, you may be prompted to accept permissions requested by Zoom to access your calendar after authenticating. Click Accept to proceed.

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Workspaces Management, then click Calendar Integration.
3. Review your list of calendar services and take note of all services that have Office365 in the Type
4. Click Reauthorize next to the first Office 365 calendar service. 
5. Check Authorize with OAuth 2.0, if necessary.
   Note: If Authorize with OAuth 2.0 is already checked, then you are already using OAuth 2.0 for authentication, and may click Cancel.  You are not using Basic authentication and do not need to take any other action for this particular calendar service. 
6. Click Authorize.
7. Authenticate to Office 365 as the dedicated service account user you use for calendar integration.

How to require OAuth 2.0 authentication for an entire account

As an account owner, or administrator role with access to account settings, you can ensure that all new calendar integrations to Office 365 on your account will use OAuth 2.0. This will prevent individual users and administrators from inadvertently selecting Basic authentication during the calendar integration setup process. 

NOTE: To avoid confusion, do not enable this setting until after Microsoft officially deprecates Basic Authentication currently planned for October 1, 2022 as stated here. Once enabled, users and admins will be unable to determine if they are currently using Basic authentication when checking their settings, and they will need to reauthorize all integrations to be sure they are using OAuth 2.0.

1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
2. Click Account Management, then Account Settings.
3. Click the Mail & Calendar tab.
4. Under Integrations, click the Enforce OAuth 2.0 for Office 365 calendar integration toggle to enable it.
