Defining allowed locations for calls/SMS
Account owners and admins can define the locations where users can make and accept calls and send SMS. When the users are outside of the allowed locations, calls, and SMS will follow the When a call is not answered user call handling setting. If this setting is enabled, outbound and inbound emergency calls and SMS will still be allowed.
Note: SMS settings only apply to users.
Requirements for defining allowed locations for calls/SMS
- Pro, Business, or Enterprise account
- Account owner or admin privileges
- Zoom Phone license
- Location permission is enabled for Phone in the client settings
Limitations for defining allowed locations for calls/SMS
Defining allowed locations for calls/SMS has the following limitations:
- Location changes for calling and SMS may take up to 1 hour to be effective. The Zoom app can be restarted for changes to take effect immediately.
- IPv6 addresses are not supported for allowed SMS locations.
How to enable or disable allowed calls/SMS locations
Account
To enable or disable Allowed Call/SMS Locations for all users in the account:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit account settings.
- In the navigation menu, click Account Management then Account Settings.
- Click the Zoom Phone tab.
- Under General, click the Allowed Call/SMS Locations toggle to enable or disable it.
- If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
- (Optional) To prevent all users in your account from changing this setting, click the lock icon
, and then click Lock to confirm the setting. - Manage SMS locations.
Group
To enable or disable Allowed Call/SMS Locations for a group of users:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit groups.
- In the navigation menu, click User Management then Groups.
- Click the applicable group name from the list.
- Click the Zoom Phone tab.
- Under General, click the Allowed Call/SMS Locations toggle to enable or disable it.
- If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at the account level and needs to be changed at that level. - (Optional) To prevent all users in the group from changing this setting, click the lock icon
, and then click Lock to confirm the setting. - Manage SMS locations.
Site
To enable or disable Allowed Call/SMS Locations for a site:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit sites.
- In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Company Info.
- Click the applicable site name from the list.
- Click the Policy tab.
- Under General, click the Allowed Call/SMS Locations toggle to enable or disable it.
- If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at the account level and needs to be changed at that level. - (Optional) To prevent all users in the site from changing this setting, click the lock icon
, and then click Lock to confirm the setting. - Manage SMS locations.
Common Area
To enable or disable Allowed Call/SMS Locations for a common area:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit common areas.
- In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Users & Rooms.
- Click the Common Area tab.
- Click the applicable common area name from the list.
- Click the Policy tab.
- Under General, click the Allowed Call/SMS Locations toggle to enable or disable it.
- If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at either the group or account level. You need to contact your Zoom admin. - Manage SMS locations.
Phone user
To enable or disable Allowed Call/SMS Locations for a phone user:
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit phone users.
- In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Users & Rooms.
- Click the Users tab.
- Click the applicable phone user name from the list.
- Click the Policy tab.
- Under General, click the Allowed Call/SMS Locations toggle to enable or disable it.
- If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at either the group or account level. You need to contact your Zoom admin. - Manage SMS locations.
How to manage SMS locations
- Enable allowed calls/SMS locations.
- Under Locations, click Set.
A pop-up window will appear. - In the window, select the All checkbox or a site name.
- Click Save.
The locations will appear as Locations Applied under Locations - (Optional) To the right of Locations Applied, use the following actions:
- Click Edit to make any changes.
- Click Remove to remove the allowed locations.
- (Optional) Select the Allow internal calls/SMS when outside of allowed locations checkbox if you want your users to receive internal calls and SMS when outside of their locations.
