Connecting with Zoom Events attendees


Connecting with attendees in the Zoom Events you attend grows your professional network and—if they accept your invitation to connect—lets you keep track of each other in and out of Zoom Events to further develop your future business interests together.

How to connect with event attendees on the desktop client

Chat in an event allows attendees to interact with each other, in addition to giving the hosts and sponsors the opportunity to communicate with their attendees. To use the chat feature as an attendee, your account admin must have the Zoom Events chat feature enabled for your account.

When an attendee accepts your connection request, they will appear under your connections list.

Connect with attendees from an event details page

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. Access the event details page that you want to view.
  3. On the event details page, click the Attendees tab.
  4. Hover your mouse over the profile card of an attendee you are not already connected with.
    The profile card will expand.
  5. Click + Connect.

Connect with attendees from the lobby chat

  1. Join an event lobby you are registered for.
  2. In the lobby chat panel, hover your mouse over the profile picture of the attendee you want to connect with.
    The attendee's profile card will appear.
  3. In the bottom-right corner of the attendee's profile card, click the add icon .
    The button will change to Connect when your mouse moves over the icon.
  4. Click Connect.
    The button will change to Pending after your request is sent.

Connect with attendees from the session participants list

  1. Join an event lobby you are registered for.
  2. In the top-right corner of the lobby chat panel, click the box with a number.
    The number signifies the total number of attendees in the session; the attendee list will open.
  3. In the attendee list, hover your mouse over the profile picture of the attendee you want to connect with.
    The attendee's profile card will appear.
  4. In the bottom-right corner of the attendee's profile card, click the add icon .
    The button will change to Connect when your mouse moves over the icon.
  5. Click Connect.
    The button will change to Pending after your request is sent.

How to connect with attendees on the web browser

Chat in an event allows attendees to interact with each other. It also gives the hosts and sponsors the opportunity to communicate with their attendees. To use the chat feature as an attendee, your account admin must have the Zoom Chat feature enabled for your account.

When an attendee accepts your connection request, they will appear under your connections list.

You can network, connect with Zoom Events attendees, and use chat on a desktop, mobile, and tablet web browser. 

Notes:

  • If the host creating the event has chat disabled (either in their personal settings or by the account admin), chat will not be available for the event.
  • If a user has their chat disabled (either in personal settings or by their account administrator), they will not be able to participate in chat regardless of the host settings.
  • Upon entering the event, attendees will see the default Lobby Chat in the right panel.

How to use the applause reaction

Understand the applause/like system

Anyone can like/applause another person's profile or profile section. You do not need to be connections. Once you like the profile element, that interaction begins a chat thread, and all interactions appear there. Likes and interactions with profiles will also be marked and seen from the Chats panel.

To like a profile, you can be static, hover your mouse over an element, or click (multiple times).

Use the applause/like system

  1. Join an event lobby you are registered for.
  2. Access a user's profile from the following:
  3. Hover your mouse over their profile.
    The applause icon will appear.
  4. Click anywhere on the profile or find the profile section/element to applaud. You can also press and hold your mouse over the user's profile/profile section to make the applause reaction bigger.
  5. In a chat

A visual indicator will show how many applauses a user's profile/profile section receives.

How to use Matching to discover recommended connections

When looking to connect with other event attendees, you can use the matching feature so that you see the profile cards of recommended attendees—based on interests similar to yours—to connect with.

From the recommended user's profile card, you can take the following actions:

Discover recommended connections from chat

  1. Join an event lobby you are registered for.
  2. In the lobby chat panel, click Matching .
    A recommended user's profile card will appear.
  3. (Optional) Click the refresh icon to see another profile card.
  4. Click the chat icon to initiate a 1:1 chat with the user.
  5. (Optional) Repeat steps to match and connect with another user.

How to view your connections

View your connections in an event

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. In the top-right corner, click your profile picture.
  3. Click Manage Profile.
  4. Click My Connections.
  5. At the top of the chat navigation panel, click the connections icon .

View your connections on web

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. In the top-right corner, click your profile picture.
  3. Click Manage Profile.
  4. Click My Connections.

View your connections on the Events Portal

  1. Sign in to Zoom Events.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Events Portal.
  3. Scroll down the page until you reach the Connections section.
  4. Click the Connections tab to view your current connections.
  5. Click the Requests tab to view users who requested to connect with you.

You can search for connections, using the search box. You can also filter connections by Recently added or Alphabetical by clicking the top-left dropdown menu. 

How to use 1:1 chat in the Events Portal

1:1 chat is available before, during, and after an event. Attendees can initiate 1:1 chat conversations through Zoom Events networking profiles in the Events Portal with their connections before and after an event. This allows you to maintain persistent 1:1 chats across the event.

Desktop web

  1. On the Events Portal page, click the floating chat button .
    This button will open the chat panel and allow you to enter chat when chat is minimized.
  2. In the chat panel, click a connection to initiate a 1:1 chat conversation.

Mobile web

  1. On the Events Portal page, tap the floating chat button .
    You will be directed to the chat screen.
  2. On the chat screen, tap a connection to initiate a 1:1 chat conversation.

Use Event Staff Chat

If you are a special-role user for multiple events, you can access Event Staff Chat. Event Staff Chat is a space for special-role users to facilitate extra communication, before, during, and after the event through the Events Portal.

These chats have the event titles in the chat channel label. These chat channels can be found above the 1:1 chats in the chat panel.
