Changing soft deletion settings


Admins can enable or disable the ability to soft delete users. If enabled, admins can soft delete phone users by clicking the option to Move to Trash. Soft-deleted users can be restored within 30 days. After that, the phone user will be permanently deleted from the account. This setting doesn't apply to Zoom Rooms with a phone license or common area phones. Admins can also enable a related setting to automatically delete inactive or soft deleted users.

Admins can also enable or disable the ability for phone users to soft delete history, voicemail, and recordings. If enabled. users can restore their soft-deleted items within 30 days. After that, it will be permanently deleted. To correctly see recovered items in the client, phone users must have client version 5.6.0 or higher.

How to enable or disable soft deletion

  1. Access the Soft Delete Users or Soft Delete History, Voicemail and Recordings policy setting at one of the available levels.
  2. Click the toggle to enable or disable it.
  3. (Optional) If you enabled Soft Delete Users, follow the next section to automatically delete soft-deleted users.

Note when changing this setting at the account, group, or site level: To prevent all users in the account, group, or site from changing this setting, click the lock icon , and then click Lock to confirm the setting. Learn more about the priority of Zoom Phone tiered policy settings.

How to automatically delete inactive or soft-deleted users

If you enabled Soft Delete Users, follow these steps to specific the amount of days users are kept in a soft-deletion state. After the specified amount of days, soft-deleted users are permanently delete.

You can also follow these steps to automatically delete inactive (deactivated) users after a specified amount of days. 

  1. Access the Automatically delete Inactive and Soft Deleted users policy setting at one of the available levels.
  2. Click the toggle to enable or disable it.
