Changing settings in the Zoom Web App
Some settings can be adjusted and set within the Zoom Web App and the web client, without needing to change settings in the web portal. The web client can be accessed through the Zoom Web App, which can be installed on web browsers and ChromeOS devices, or through the Join from Your Browser link when using a join URL.
How to manage web app settings
- Join or start a meeting with the web app.
- In the meeting toolbar, click your profile picture, then click
Settings.
This will open the settings window, giving you access to the following options:
General
- Theme: Apply different themes to the app navigation toolbar.
- Navigation: Manage items that are added to the toolbar.
Audio
- Speaker: Click Test Speaker to play a test tone. Click the drop-down menu to select the speaker you want Zoom to use.
- Microphone: Click Test Mic to record audio and play it back. Click the drop-down to select the mic you want Zoom to use.
- Mute my mic when joining a meeting: Join meetings with the mic on mute.
- Press and hold SPACE key to temporarily unmute yourself: If you are muted in a meeting, allows you to unmute by pressing and holding the SPACE bar.
- Sync buttons on headset: Sync headset buttons for in-call control.
- Contact Center message notifications:
- Always play notifications: Play sound notifications for all unread messages.
- Mute during meetings calls: Mute sound notifications only during Contact Center video or voice calls, Zoom meetings, and Zoom Phone calls
- Always mute notifications: Mute sound notifications for all unread messages.
Video
- Turn off my video when joining a meeting: Automatically disable your video when joining a meeting.
- Hide non-video participants: Hide participants' thumbnails if they don't have video enabled. Thumbnails for non-video participants display their name.
- Hide Self View: Hide your video preview while on calls.
- See myself as the active speaker while speaking: Place your video as the primary active speaker on your own screen when you speak.
- Use hardware acceleration for: Enable to use your device’s graphics card video to save CPU usage for other processes. This can be enabled for Receiving video and Sending video. The web client will need to be refreshed for this to take effect.
Phone
- Enable click-to-dial and click-to-text: Activate click-to-dial and click-to-text for seamless calling and messaging from your browser.
- Hide incoming calls while in a meeting
- Location Permission: Allow Zoom to access my location.
Chat
- Left Sidebar
- Show at the top of my sidebar: Any items you don't select will show in the "More" menu in the sidebar.
- Contact Requests
- Bookmarks
- Reminders
- Files
- Customize the behavior of my sideber
- Only allow once section opened at a time
- Organize by section
- Show profile pictures next to direct message chats
- Customize the look of my sidebar: Choose between light and dark mode.
- Other Settings:
- Show link preview
- Change my status to "Away" when I m inactive for x minutes: Click the dropdown menu to choose how many minutes before your status turns to "Away"
- Blocked users: Click the Manage block users button to add users that will be blocked
- Unread Meessages
- Keep all unread messages on top in chat and channel lists
- Show unread message count for channels
- Move messages with the new replies to the bottom of the chat
- When viewing unread messages in a channel:
- Start at the first unread
- Start at the latest unread
- Notifications: Enable or disable chat notifications
Note: Make sure operating system-level notifications are turned on
- All Messages: Get notified for all message activity.
- Direct Messages, Mentions and Replies: Includes all direct messages, group or personal mentions, and replies to you.
- Off: Turn off all chat notifications.
- Except: Manage Group chat and channels notifications.
Statistics
Displays meeting data such as latency, packet loss, frequency, and jitter, so you can evaluate your audio and video quality.
