MacOS Big Sur black screen when screen sharing

If you are using Zoom for MacOS, on a device updated to Apple's Big Sur operating system, as well as leveraging a wired connection for your internet, it is possible you may experience a black screen when attempting to share content with others in a meeting or webinar. On macOS Big Sur, packets over a certain size may not be transmitted properly over the UDP protocol.

Issue resolution

While the fix for this issue is coming in the next MacOS update by Apple, we recommend leveraging a wireless connection in the meantime. If you require a wired connection for your device, you can change your Zoom screen share settings to use a TCP connection.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
  3. Click the Share Screen tab.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Check Use TCP connection for screen sharing.
