Getting started with Zoom for Home


Zoom for Home allows users to join meetings from their personal workspace away from the office with a dedicated device. The solution supports integrated audio/video conferencing, wireless screen sharing, and can be purchased and set up by individual users or IT departments. To get started, an individual needs a Zoom account and a supported device.

Prerequisites for using Zoom for Home

Setup preparations

  1. Find or clear a space for your Zoom for Home setup.
  2. Acquire a supported device (see prerequisites), such as a Zoom for Home - DTEN Me.
  3. Sign up for a Zoom account if you have not done so already or if you have not been provided one from your organization. No special license is required to use Zoom for Home. Any Basic (free), Pro, Business, or Enterprise user is eligible. 

Basic setup

  1. Place your device in the area you have selected. Power on the device and go through the initial setup wizard, then connect it to the Internet.
  2. On the Zoom application, home screen, tap Sign In.
    Note: On Zoom for Home smart display products you will need to launch the Zoom app manually.
  3. Choose the method you want to use to sign in:

Sign in with email

  1. Enter the email and password of your Zoom account and tap Sign in.
  2. If you are performing the setup on your own, the process will complete automatically. If a Personal Zoom Room has been provisioned for you by your organization, tap to select it from the list displayed.

Setting a Screen Lock Passcode and Configuring Auto Lock

You can set a passcode to easily lock your device when you are away from your desk, or set your device to auto-lock in case you forget.

Note: Your organization may require a screen lock passcode to be set on your device.

  1. Once you have completed the initial sign in process, you should be prompted to setup a screen lock passcode. If you chose the setup later option, tap settings on lower right corner of the screen.
  2. Tap Screen Lock. Create a passcode and re-enter it to confirm your choice.
  3. You can set the device to automatically lock by tapping Auto Lock Screen After Inactivity from the settings page and selecting a timeout threshold. If you choose to Never auto lock the screen, you will have to manually lock the device from the home screen every time.

  4. To manually lock your device, tap the lock icon on the lower right hand corner of the home screen.
