You can open the Zoom desktop app to schedule and start meetings. Accessing the Zoom app is helpful to utilize certain in-app settings and features, such as virtual background, audio/video settings, as well as other options.
Notes:
- The Zoom desktop app has different features than the Zoom web portal. The Zoom web portal is where you can customize your profile and configure your Zoom account settings.
- You can also use the following steps if your Zoom icon has disappeared from your desktop or if you have trouble locating the Zoom desktop app.
Prerequisites for starting the Zoom desktop app
- Zoom desktop app for Windows, macOS, or Linux: Global minimum version or higher
How to open the Zoom desktop app
macOSOpening Zoom
- In the Dock, locate the Finder icon
. - Right-click on the icon, then click New Finder Window.
- In the new window, click Applications.
- Find and double-click the zoom.us
application to start the app.
Note: If Launchpad is on your dock, you can click that to access your applications list, and open Zoom from there.
Saving Zoom to the Dock
Once you have the Zoom desktop app open, you can save it to your dock.
- In the Dock, right-click the Zoom icon .
- Hover your mouse over Options, then click Keep in Dock.
Windows- In the taskbar, click the Windows icon.
- In your apps list, scroll until you get to the Zoom folder.
- Click on the Zoom folder.
- Double click Start Zoom to launch the application.
- In the taskbar, click the Windows icon.
- Click the down arrow, in the bottom left corner, to access All Apps.
- Scroll to the apps until you see Zoom, then click Start Zoom .
- In the taskbar, click the Windows icon.
- Click All Programs.
- In the programs list, click on the Zoom folder.
- Double click Start Zoom .
Using the VDI client is recommended for all virtual environments. This includes environments that use media extensions which Zoom does not currently support. Using the standard desktop app in a VDI environment is not supported or recommended.
If the Zoom icon has disappeared from your desktop and you cannot locate it after following the steps above, you need to install the Zoom desktop app.
