This article covers:

Prerequisites to using Zoom Phone Certified Hardware

Encryption

Zoom Phone supports secure voice calls for connections between the Zoom Cloud and the Zoom desktop client, mobile app, web browser/client, and supported SIP devices. During call setup, Zoom Phone uses SIP over TLS 1.2 with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit algorithm for these connections. The Zoom desktop client, mobile app, and web browser/client connections encrypt call media to the Zoom Cloud using SRTP with AES 256-bit encryption algorithm. SIP devices configured with SRTP use AES-128 or AES-256 bit algorithm to encrypt call media for connections to the Zoom Cloud, otherwise unencrypted RTP is used as a fallback.

Important: By default, AES-128 bit encryption is enabled for call media transmitted by supported SIP devices. Admins can upgrade devices to AES-256 bit encryption using the web portal. Fax lines may not support full encryption. Learn more about Zoom Phone encryption.

Grandstream

Due to the enhanced security requirement, the Zoom Phone provision server does not support any endpoints factory certificates with MD5 along with some other limitations. Hence there are older hardware versions of the listed Grandstream models that might not support Zoom Phone assisted provisioning.

The following Grandstream devices have been verified to support the required certificates and encryption for Zoom Phone service:

Notes:

Check the hardware version number of your Grandstream desk phone

  1. On the back of your device, identify the barcode on the label of the device.
  2. In the P/N number, identity the last 6 digits number.
The first 3 digits of that number will be the hardware version number. For example if the P/N is 962-00113-15A001, then the 15A will be the hardware version and stands for V1.5.

Poly

Notes:

  • Provisioned Poly devices will automatically upgrade to the latest supported firmware version. Set up firmware update rules if you don't want Poly devices to automatically upgrade.
  • Zoom only works with Polycom devices that are running at least version 4.0.0 of the UCS firmware. In previous versions (Polycom SIP software 3.x or earlier), upgrading from the phone's web interface, registration, and provisioning will not work with Zoom. This restriction does not apply to OBi Analog Telephone Adapters (ATA).
  • Polycom VVX OBi edition phones are not supported. The only exception is the VVX D230, which has OBi firmware but is still supported by Zoom Phone.
  • VVX 250/350/450 come with two firmware versions depending on the hardware revision (Old or New). Please review the Poly Product Shipping Configuration Change Notice for more detailed information about new hardware revisions.
  • The USB port for storage is disabled by default on Poly Edge E series devices to prevent inadvertent misuse.

Notes (A):

  • These are Poly end-of-sale models. Zoom will be removing support for these models in the near future.
  • Currently, Poly end-of-sale models with a date of manufacture that is older than the date noted are unable to support Zoom's security requirements and cannot be used with Zoom Phone. The manufacturing date is usually identified by a sticker on the bottom of the phone.

Note (B): These models do not support SIP video.

Notes (D):

  • One expansion module can be attached to a Poly Edge E400 or E450.
  • Up to two expansion modules can be attached to a Poly E500 or E550.

Yealink

Notes:

  • Provisioned Yealink devices will automatically upgrade to the latest supported firmware version. Set up firmware update rules if you don't want Yealink devices to automatically upgrade.
  • After the June 14, 2020 firmware upgrade, the following end-of-life (EOL) models are only allowed to use ZTP once: T29G, T41P, T42G, T46G, T48G, W56P.
  • If you need to re-provision an EOL model, you will be prompted to enter the last 5 digits of the device's serial number to start the provisioning process. You can also use assisted provisioning.

Analog gateways

Notes for ATAs

  • Only FXS ports can be used on ATAs.
  • Only these ATA devices support fax. See the following fax setup guides for more information:
  • ATA devices often support multiple ports. After performing assisted provisioning, you can assign multiple phone users to a single ATA device based on the port capacity available.

AudioCodes

Notes:

  • For setup instructions, see the provisioning guide for AudioCodes MP series gateways.
  • Some models with certain revision numbers are not supported. Refer to the AudioCodes website for more information.
  • For assisting provisioning on the MP504/508 (formally M500Li) Analog Gateway, follow these instructions.
  • When you enabled SRTP for these models, there is a reduction in the available channels. Only the following channels have SRTP enabled and are available for use:
    • MP-124 - 17 channels from 24
Note: Follow this link to differentiate if you are using MP-124E or MP-124D
    • MP-118 - 6 channels from 8
    • MP-114 - 3 channels from 4
    • MP-1288:
    • (MP-1288, MP-112, and MP504/508 (formally M500Li) don't have a reduction in available channels)

Notes:

  • Check the firmware and device certificate versions before proceeding to device provisioning.
  • Check the ATA has the latest supported firmware version below, by following the upgrade process.
  • Due to the enhanced security requirement, the Zoom Phone provision server requires the HT8xx to support Generation 2 (Gen 2) certificate using ECDSA + SHA 384. Verify your ATA unit has the updated Gen 2 device factory certificate installed.
  • HT812/814/818 have 2 ethernet ports (WAN and LAN). For device provisioning under Zoom Phone web portal page, be sure to specify the MAC address value by using the LAN MAC address value (not the WAN MAC address) from the unit.
  • When entering the provision/config server URL path under ADVANCE SETTINGS>Firmware Upgrade and Provisioning>Config Server Path, make sure to specify the URL WITHOUT the https:// on the front.

Upgrade an ATA Grandstream firmware

  1. Log in to the ATA web page.
  2. Under the STATUS page, select Software Version, then Prog.
  3. Download the firmware below if you have an older version.
  4. Select the ADVANCE SETTINGS page, Upload Firmware, then Upload from local directory.
  5. Follow the remaining steps to complete the upgrade process.

Verify an ATA Grandstream unit has the updated Gen 2 device factory certificate installed

  1. Log in to the ATA web page.
  2. Under the STATUS page, select Individual Certificate Generation.
  3. Verify the certificate name is GEN 2 (SHA-384 + ECDSA).
    • If it isn't the correct name, proceed to the Grandstream guide.
    • If it's the correct name, proceed to the Zoom Phone device provisioning.

Find an ATA Grandstream LAN MAC address value

  1. Log in to the ATA web page.
  2. Select the STATUS page.
  3. On the top of the page, find the LAN MAC (Device MAC) address value.

Pagers and intercom

Cloud paging is supported on all Zoom-certified output devices such as SIP speakers, SIP horns, paging adapters, and Visual Alerters from both Cyberdata and Algo.
Note: Algo and Cyberdata Paging Adapter & IP speaker/horn devices/Visual Alerter do not support the Cloud Paging's Emergency Paging overwriting Standard Paging feature. Therefore, Algo and Cyberdata Paging Adapter & IP speaker/horn devices/Visual Alerter will treat all Cloud Paging as a standard page.

Algo

Zoom Phone supports the following Algo SIP-based paging and intercom devices:

Notes:

  • For Algo devices, Zoom Phone supports assisted provisioning. Detailed instructions are provided when provisioning the device in the Zoom web portal. If manual configuration (assisted provisioning is preferred) is needed, see the Algo configuration guide for more information.
    • The device firmware needs to be higher than version 3.2.3 to prevent audio loss.
  • When adding an Algo device to the Zoom web portal, set the following Device Type fields:
    • Brand: Algo
    • Model: algo-sip-based-device
  • Certain paging devices have the auto-answer capability, assigning them to any user that has an existing device(s) is not advised. We suggest assigning them to a common area extension instead.
  • You do not need to contact Zoom to request a generic SIP profile.
