How to troubleshoot black screen during screen sharing

Windows

The black screen during screen sharing could be caused by a graphics card with automatic-graphics switching (such as an Nvidia card).

  1. In the Windows Control Panel, open Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Click Manage 3D Settings.
  3. Click Program Settings under I would like to use the following 3D settings.
  4. Under Select a program to customize, add Cpthost.exe from the Zoom bin directory.
  5. Click Add.
  6. Find Cpthost.exe from the Zoom bin directory (located at C:/>Users>YOURUSERNAME>AppData>Roaming>Zoom>bin).
  7. Click Add Selected Program.
  8. Under Preferred Graphics Processor, select Integrated graphics
  9. Click Apply.
  10. Try screen sharing again with Zoom.
Linux

Open support option

KDE Setting

  1. Click System Settings, then Display and Monitor.
  2. Click Compositor and click Enable compositor on startup under Compositor Settings for Desktop Effects.

New KDE

  1. Click System Settings then Desktop Effects.
  2. Under General tab, click Enable desktop effects at startup under Activation.

GNome setting

  1. Launch gconf-editor, then hit Alt-F2.
  2. Type metacity -c.
  3. Press return.

xfc

  1. Click Settings Manager (xfce4-settings-manager), then Windows Manager Tweaks.
  2. Under Compositor click Enable display compositing.

 

Mate

  1. Click Contact Center, then Desktop Settings.
  2. Under Macro settings, click Metacity+Compositing.

Install xcompmgr

Install xcompmgr using your Linux distro's package manager. If you have a graphical package manager (like Synaptics), search for xcompmgr in your package manger.

Alternatively, you can open the terminal on your Linux distro and run the relevant command:

Debian, Ubuntu, or Linux Mint

sudo apt install xcompmgr

openSUSE

zypper install xcompmgr

Fedora

dnf install xcompmgr

Configure xcompmgr

After installing, open the terminal and run this command:

xcompmgr -c -l0 -t0 -r0 -o.00
