Sending audio and video messages in Zoom Team Chat

Users can send short audio (voice) and video messages to others. Asynchronous audio and video messages allow users the time to consider their responses and then record as needed to provide thoughtfully crafted responses, with the added personal touch and emotional context that audio and video provide.

Note: Recording video messages with virtual background or touch-up appearance requires version 5.12.0 or higher (version 5.12.6 for Android) and a device that supports virtual backgrounds

How to enable or disable voice or video messages

Account

To enable or disable audio or video messages for all users in the account:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit account settings.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Account Management then Account Settings.
  3. Click the Team Chat tab.
  4. Under Sharing, click the following toggles to enable or disable them:
  5. If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
  6. (Optional) To prevent all users in your account from changing this setting, click the lock icon , and then click Lock to confirm the setting.

Groups

To enable or disable audio or video messages for a group of users:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit groups.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Account Management then Groups.
  3. Click the applicable group name from the list.
  4. Click the Team Chat tab.
  5. Under Sharing, click the following toggles to enable or disable them:
  6. If a verification dialog appears, click Enable or Disable to verify the change.
    Note: If the option is grayed out, it has been locked at the account level and needs to be changed at that level.

How to send voice or video messages in Team Chat

Send a voice message

  1. Below the chat box, click the Audio button.
    Zoom will open the audio recorder.
  2. Click the recording  button to begin recording audio.
    Your default microphone is used to record an audio message up to 60 seconds long.
  3. Click the stop  button to end the recording.
  4. Click the play  button to listen to your recording, then click the send  button to send the audio message.
    The message will be sent to the chat or channel and can be listened to, reacted to, replied to, and pinned.

Send a video message

  1. Below the chat box, click the  Video button.
    Zoom will open the video recorder.
  2. (Optional) Click the virtual background button to adjust the background or touch-up appearance options for your video message. 
    Note: This requires version 5.12.0 or higher (5.12.6 or higher for Android) and a device that supports virtual background. By default, your meeting virtual background choice is used for video messages. 
  3. Click the Record  button to begin recording audio and video.
    Your default microphone and camera are used to record a video message up to 3 minutes long.
  4. Click the stop  button to end the recording.
  5. In the middle of the video preview, click the play  button to view to your recording
  6. Click Retake  to record a replacement video, or click the Send  button to send the video message.
    The video message will be sent to the chat or channel and can be viewed, reacted to, replied to, and pinned.

Note: Sending a video message is currently only supported on Windows and macOS.

Android | iOS

Send a voice message

  1. To the right of the chat box, tap the mic  icon .
    Zoom will open the audio recorder.
  2. Tap the Start  button to begin recording audio.
    Your default microphone is used to record an audio message up to 60 seconds long.
  3. Tap the stop  button to end the recording.
  4. Tap the play  button to listen to your recording, or tap X Cancel to discard the audio recording.
  5. Tap the Send  button to send the audio message.
    The message will be sent to the chat or channel and can be listened to, reacted to, replied to, and pinned.

Send a video message

  1. To the left of the chat box, tap the more icon  .
  2. Tap the Record Video  button.
    Zoom will open the video recorder. You can record your video message in portrait or landscape mode.
  3. (Optional) Tap the virtual background button to adjust the background or touch-up appearance options for your video message. 
    Note: This requires version 5.12.0 or higher (5.12.6 or higher for Android) and a device that supports virtual background. By default, your meeting virtual background choice is used for video messages. 
  4. Tap the record  button to begin recording audio and video.
    Your default microphone and camera are used to record a video message up to 3 minutes long.
  5. Tap the stop  button to end the recording.
  6. In the middle of the video preview, tap the play  button to view to your recording
  7. Tap Retake to record a replacement video, or tap the send  button to send the video message.
    The video message will be sent to the chat or channel and can be viewed, reacted to, replied to, and pinned.
