Using the Google Drive for Team Chat App
The Google Drive for Zoom Team Chat helps businesses collaborate within Team Chat by allowing users to easily and quickly access Google Drive. This app allows users to access files and documents from Google Drive without having to switch back and forth between applications.

Prerequisites for using the Google Drive for Team Chat App
- A Zoom account
- Zoom desktop client
- Windows: version 5.13.0 or higher
- macOS: version 5.13.0 or higher
- A Google Workspace Account
How to install from the Zoom App Marketplace
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace.
- In the top right of your screen, search for Google Drive by Zoom
- Click Add.
- Review the requested permissions and click Authorize.
Once installed, the app is displayed under the Apps section of the Team Chat tab of the Zoom desktop client.
How to connect the Team Chat App to your Google Workspace Account
- Sign in to the desktop client.
- Click the Team Chat tab .
- At the bottom of the left chat panel, find the Apps section.
- Select Google Drive.
- Click Connect.
You will be prompted to connect your Zoom account with your Google Workspace account. - Sign-in with your Google Workspace account.
When sign-in is successful, you will see a message from the Team Chat App indicating the app is ready to use.
How to use the Google Drive for Team Chat App
With Google Drive for Team Chat you will be able to
- Share files from Google Drive within Team Chat
- Create Google Docs, Presentations, and Spreadsheets
- Set Sharing Permissions for files shared from Google Drive
Share a file
- Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
- Click the Team Chat tab .
- Select the 1:1, group chat, or channel you want to share a file with.
- Below the chat text compose box, click on the Google Drive app icon.
A menu of options will appear - Click Share from Google Drive.
The Google Drive file picker will appear. - Search for and select a file from your Google Drive
- Click Select to post it to the Team Chat conversation.
Docs, spreadsheets, and presentations can also be quickly shared by using a slash command.
Create a new Google Drive file
- Sign in to the Zoom desktop client.
- Click the Team Chat tab .
- Select the 1:1, group chat, or channel you want to share a file with.
- Below the chat text compose box, click on the Google Drive app icon.
A menu of options will appear - Click the type of document you want to create:
- Create a Document
- Create a Spreadsheet
- Create a Presentation
- Enter a title for the new document.
- Click Create.
A new document will be created and available for use.
Docs, spreadsheets, and presentations can also be quickly created by using a slash command.
Set Sharing Permissions for files shared from Google Drive
Upon posting a document from Google Drive to a chat conversation, you will be able to set your sharing permissions. This allows you to control who has access to the document.
- Click on the document preview box.
- Click the Share with… drop-down menu.
- Choose who can access the document (Channel Members, Your Organization, or Anyone with link) and what type of access they have to the document (View, Comment, or Edit)
After updating doc permissions, a message only visible to you will be posted to the channel confirming who now has access to the document.
Slash commands for the Google Drive app
Once installed, the Google Drive app can be used from any Team Chat channel. The following slash commands are available in any 1:1, group chat, or chat channel:

Enter /googledrive disconnect to Sign out of your Google Drive account. -

Enter /googledrive help to receive a list of all available commands. -
/googledrive create doc
Enter /googledrive create doc to create a new Google Docs document. -
/googledrive create slide
Enter /googledrive create slide to create a new Google Slides presentation. -
/googledrive create sheet
Enter /googledrive create sheet to create a new Google Sheets spreadsheet. -
/googledrive share
Enter /googledrive share to share a file from your Google Drive account.
How to disconnect the Team Chat App to your Google Workspace Account
- Sign in to the desktop client.
- Click the Team Chat tab .
- At the bottom of the left chat panel, find the Apps section.
- Select Google Drive
- Enter the slash command /googledrive disconnect
- Click on the Disconnect button and the app will be disconnected from your Google Workspace account
How to remove the Google Drive App
- Sign into the Zoom App Marketplace with your Zoom account.
- In the top right of the page, click Manage.
- In the navigation menu, click Added Apps.
- Next to the Google Drive app, click Remove.
- Confirm the dialogue and click Remove.
Data Security
- This app has access to the following information on Google Drive:
- Read permission - See your primary Google account email address and associate you with your personal information on Google
- Read, write, edit permissions - See, edit, create and delete all of your Google Drive files.
- This chat app has the following permissions on Zoom:
- This chat app can send a chat message to an IM channel or Zoom user under the Zoom account.
- View your user information
- View current user's team chat channels
- Communications between this chat app and Zoom/Google Drive are encrypted:
- Protocol: TLS 1.2
- Cipher suite: ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256
- Key length: 128 bits
- Perfect Forward secrecy: YES
- This chat app stores access credentials in the local data store:
- Google Drive API tokens and Zoom OAuth credentials (both user-level only) are stored in an encrypted database.
