Signing in and claiming host during a meeting

If you have Allow participants to join before host enabled for your meeting and you join the meeting without being signed in, you can sign in and claim host control. This will give you the ability to manage participants, record, and more.

Note: If you are already signed in, you will not have this option and it will show you as the host in the participants list. If it does not show you as the host, but this is a meeting you scheduled, you may be signed in to the wrong account or scheduled the meeting for another user using scheduling privilege. 

If a participant has claimed host of someone else's meeting and the original host joins while signed in to their account, the original host will be given the option to reclaim host controls or allow the current host to retain host controls. If the host reclaims host controls, the former host will be demoted to a participant. The host can then promote them back to host or co-host if they wish or need.

How to claim host of a meeting

Windows | macOS | Linux

To sign in and claim host control:

  1. Open the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click Join Meeting, then enter the meeting information such as meeting ID and passcode.
  3. In the meeting controls toolbar, click the Participants icon .
  4. At the bottom of the participants menu, click Claim host.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Enter the host key and click Claim.
    • Click I am the host, then follow the prompts to sign in to your Zoom account.
      You will be listed as the host in the participants list and have access to host controls.
iOS

To sign in and claim host control:

  1. In the meeting controls, tap More. If you are on an iPhone, you will find the meeting controls at the bottom of your screen, and if you are on an iPad, you will find them at the top of your screen.
  2. Tap Sign In as Host.
  3. Sign in to your Zoom account.
  4. If you tap Participants, you can see that you are now listed as the host in the participants list.
Android

To sign in and claim host control:

  1. In the meeting controls, tap More.
  2. Tap Login as Host.
    You will see a prompt notifying you that the host is not currently in the meeting.
    Tap OK to login as the host.
  3. Sign in to your Zoom account.
  4. If you tap Participants, you can see that you are now listed as the host in the participants list.
