Changing your presence status to Away when inactive

You can set Zoom to automatically change your presence status to Away after a specified period of inactivity. By default, your presence status changes to Away after 15 minutes of inactivity, but you can adjust this duration in the Zoom desktop app or Zoom Web App.

How to change your presence status to Away when you're inactive for a specific period of time

Note: The Away presence status automatically clears when you become active on the Zoom desktop app, mobile app, or Zoom Web App.

Windows | macOS | Linux
  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
    Note: From the navigation bar, you can also click the Settings icon image of the Settings icon.
  3. In the settings window, click the General tab image of the General tab.
  4. Under the Presence status section, click the Change status to "Away" when inactive for: toggle to enable or disable it.
  5. If you enabled the Change status to "Away" when inactive for: toggle, click the drop-down menu below it to choose the number of minutes of inactivity you want before your presence status turns to Away.
Zoom Web App
  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web App.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
    Note: From the navigation bar, you can also click the gear icon image of the gear icon.
  3. In the settings window, click the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  4. Under the Chat preferences section, click the Change status to "Away" when inactive for: toggle to enable or disable it.
  5. If you enabled the Change status to "Away" when inactive for: toggle, click the drop-down menu next to it to choose the number of minutes of inactivity you want before your presence status turns to Away.
