Special and industry-set rate phone numbers

There are certain phone number prefixes that qualify as special rate numbers and are charged at a per-minute rate, regardless of the calling plan that is assigned to the user placing the calls. These numbers are often split-cost/shared-cost numbers that are higher-cost than standard numbers in their country.

Additionally, certain phone number prefixes in various countries have set rates and/or charges. The charging mechanism (charge per call, charge per minute, etc.) is established by the industry and is outside Zoom's control. In this case, Zoom charges customers the Industry Set Rate and calls to these prefixes will be flagged as Industry Set Rates in Phone system management.

How to view your per-minute special rate

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit account settings.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Account Management then Billing.
  3. Click View/Edit Countries/Regions, next to your Zoom Phone plan.
Countries or regions with a special rate have a blue arrow in the far-right column.
  4. Click the the blue arrow to view your special rate (Special column).

How to view calls being charged at a special rate or industry-set rate

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal as an admin with the privilege to edit phone settings.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Logs.
  3. Make sure the Show charged calls only option is selected.
The per-minute rate can be found under the charge column by hovering over the question mark. This per-minute rate can be cross-referenced to the rate listed in the Billing tab.

Charging methods for certain industry set rates

In certain countries (specifically Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom), certain prefixes are not charged per the normal charging pulse of 60 seconds. The following charging methods are supported for these industry set prefixes:

  1. Calls charged per second: These calls are charged on a per second pulse depending on the number of seconds a call lasts.
Note: An access fee will be charged for prefixes supporting this charging method. The access fee is a direct pass through of the access fee charged to Zoom by our underlying carriers. To calculate the charge the following formula is to be used:
    • Charge = Access fee + (Call duration in seconds * per second rate)
  2. Calls charged per call + per second: These calls have a per call set up fee in addition to the per second fee and the access fee. Similar to the access fee, the per call fee is also a direct pass through. To calculate the call charges, the following formula is to be used:
    • Charge = Access fee + per call charge + (call duration in seconds * per second rate)
  3. Calls charged per call + per minute but have free call period: These calls are similar to the call charging method described in Step 2 with the variation that there is a free call period. This means that a certain initial duration of the call will not be charged the per second rate.
Note: The access fee and per call charge will continue to apply. To calculate the call charges, the following formula is to be used: Charge = Access fee + Per call charge + (Call duration in seconds * per second rate) where call duration in seconds is (total call duration in seconds - free call period in seconds)
  4. Calls charged per call + per second but have max call charge: Certain prefixes have a maximum call charge limit. Calls to these prefixes will not be charged more than the maximum call charge. However, if the call charge is calculated to be less than the maximum call charge, the lesser charge will be applied. To calculate the call charges, the following formulas are to be used:
    • Charge (when actual charge >= max call charge) = Access fee + Maximum call charge
    • Charge (when actual charge < max call charge) = Access fee + Per call rate + (Per second rate * Call duration in seconds)
  5. Calls charged per call + per minute but have free call period and have max call charge: Certain prefixes have max call charges as well as free call periods. The charging of the call will start after the free call period has elapsed. The charges incurred after that point shall not exceed the max call charge. However, if the call charge is calculated to be less than the max call charge, the lesser charge will be applied. To calculate the call charges, the following formula is to be used:
    • Charge (when actual charge >= max call charge) = Access fee + Maximum call charge
    • Charge (when actual charge < max call charge) = Access fee + Per call rate + (Per second rate * call duration in seconds) where call duration in seconds is (total call duration in seconds - free call period in seconds)
