Getting started with the Zoom Workplace mobile app
Zoom unifies collaboration tools for communication, productivity, spaces, and employee engagement in an AI-first work platform, accessible through the Zoom Workplace mobile app for iOS and Android.
Note: Some features may not be available due to license or add-on restrictions. Please refer to feature specific articles for more information about requirements and configuration.
Requirements for getting started on the mobile app for Android or iOS
After installation, open the Zoom Workplace app on your device. When you open the app for the first time, you have the option to sign in, join a meeting, or sign up.
Sign in: If you already have a Zoom account and want to sign in or start your own scheduled meeting, tap Sign in.
Sign up: If you don’t have a Zoom account yet, tap Sign up to create a free Basic account.
Join meeting: To join a meeting without signing in, tap Join meeting. You will be prompted to enter the meeting ID and passcode.
How to use the Zoom Workplace mobile app
Navigate through the app
Use the navigation bar at the bottom of the mobile app to select from various Zoom products and options you have access to. The More tab includes additional items not currently displayed on the navigation bar.
Note: Some tabs may not be visible to you if you do not have access to that feature or product.
Profile picture and settings
In the app header, tap your avatar or profile picture. This is where you can view your sign in information, availability, and status message, as well as manage your profile information and app settings.
QR code: Tap the QR code icon to scan a QR code or share your QR code with others to add you as a contact.
Email: Below your display name, tap your email address to view which account you’re currently signed in with or switch to a different account.
Status: Tap to add, update, or clear your status message, then tap Save.
My profile: Tap to view and manage your profile information. From your profile menu, you can:
Update your profile picture
Edit your display name
Delete your account
View or edit your personal meeting (ID)
View your license assignments
Manage the devices where you’re logged in
Settings: Tap to view the Settings menu, where you can manage your app settings, view About information, switch to a different account, and sign out.
Global search
In the app header, tap the search icon to perform a global search of your Zoom Workplace account, including contacts, meetings, chats, channels, whiteboards, docs, and more. You can refine your search results for certain content types using sorting and filters. Your searches are synced with the Zoom desktop app.
AI Companion
In the app header, tap the AI Companion icon to open the AI Companion panel. In the AI Companion panel, you can ask questions and receive tailored responses sourced from the different data sources and contexts available to you. Learn more about using the AI Companion panel.
How to start or join a meeting on the Zoom Workplace mobile app
Start an instant meeting
In the navigation bar, tap the Home tab.
Tap Meet.
Tap Start a meeting.
Start a scheduled meeting
In the navigation bar, tap the Home tab.
Locate the meeting you scheduled.
On the meeting card, tap Start.
Join a meeting
In the navigation bar, tap the Home tab.
If you know the meeting ID and passcode, tap Join, then do the following:
Enter the meeting ID and passcode.
Tap Join.
If you have meetings listed on the Home tab, tap the meeting card, then tap Join.
How to use in-meeting controls
When you join or start a meeting, your meeting controls are available in the meeting controls toolbar located at the bottom of the meeting window (tap in the Zoom window to display meeting controls if the toolbar isn’t visible). The meeting controls toolbar includes primary meeting functions depending on your meeting role and what features you have access to, such as Mute/Unmute, Start video/Stop video, and Chat. Additional options are available in the More menu.
You can also join a test meeting to familiarize yourself with meeting controls before joining a scheduled meeting.
Permissions requested by the Zoom mobile app
The Zoom mobile app may ask you to authorize access to the following permissions with a pop-up, depending on which features you are accessing in Zoom. You can enable these options beforehand or at your overall discretion by going to Settings, then scrolling down and selecting Zoom on your device. The following permissions are requested by Zoom:
Location: Allows Zoom to access your location, so it can generate an Emergency Response Location, for when dialing emergency services from Zoom phone.
Contacts: Utilized for Phone Contact Matching (not available for iPads or iPadOS).
Calendars: Allows Zoom to add a meeting as an event in the Calendar app, when a Zoom meeting is scheduled.
Photos: Allows Zoom the ability to access your local photo albums, for adding images to chat messages, or for screen sharing during a meeting or webinar.
Microphone: Joining using built-in audio devices in a meeting or webinar.
Camera: Sharing your video in a meeting or webinar.
Siri & Search (iOS only): Enables the ability to add Siri Shortcuts including Join the Next Meeting, View Today’s Meetings, Start My Personal Meeting.
Notifications: Allows Zoom the ability to display notifications for chat messages, upcoming meetings, and more.
Background App Refresh: Allows for notifications for Meeting invites when the app is closed and not actively running.
Bluetooth: Allows for Push-to-Talk (PTT) automatic connections, specifically for the Jabra device. If enabled, the Jabra headset can be discovered and used with the Talk button, which is compatible with Zoom Phone's PTT solution.
