Converting a Poly phone to a Zoom Phone Appliance


Admins can convert a supported Poly CCX series phone to a Zoom Phone Appliance, allowing the assigned phone user to use the phone as a Zoom Phone Appliance

Depending on the current status and usage of the Poly CCX desk phone, there are different conversion processes. Follow the relevant section below.

Note: If you want to convert a Poly CCX 600/700 that's already provisioning in Zoom Phone, follow the simplified process to convert it to a Zoom Phone Appliance.

Prerequisites

Converting a new phone (never powered up or registered)

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Device Management then Device List.
  3. Click the ellipses button (...) in the top-right corner, then click Add Zoom Phone Appliance.
  4. Follow the process to add a Zoom Phone Appliance.
    The device's firmware will update. This process may take 10 minutes and multiple reboots. Wait until the update completes and reboots have stopped before continuing.
  5. Power up the device and go through startup menu:
    • Set and confirm the new admin password
    • Accept the EULA
    • Choose Language
    • Select the time zone
    • Select the Base Profile as Zoom Phone
    • Click Yes to continue
  6. After the phone reboots, if not signed in already, follow the steps to sign in to the Zoom Phone Appliance.

Converting a phone that was used with other service provider

If the phone is currently in use with another service provider, please follow these steps to convert to Zoom Phone Appliance.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Device Management then Device List.
  3. Click the ellipses button (...) in the top-right corner, then click Add Zoom Phone Appliance.
  4. Follow the process to add a Zoom Phone Appliance.
  5. Factory reset phone by navigating to Settings > Advanced > Administrator Settings > Reset to Defaults > Reset to Factory.
    The device's firmware will update. This process may take 10 minutes and multiple reboots. Wait until the update completes and reboots have stopped before continuing.
  6. Power up the device and go through startup menu:
    • Set and confirm the new admin password
    • Accept the EULA
    • Choose Language
    • Select the time zone
    • Select the Base Profile as Zoom Phone
    • Click Yes to continue
  7. After the phone reboots, if not signed in already, follow the steps to sign in to the Zoom Phone Appliance.

Converting a phone that was used with Microsoft Teams

If the phone is currently in use with Microsoft Teams, follow these steps to convert it to a Zoom Phone Appliance.

  1. Remove the phone configuration from Microsoft Teams.
  2. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  3. In the navigation menu, click Device Management then Device List.
  4. Click the ellipses button (...) in the top-right corner, then click Add Zoom Phone Appliance.
  5. Follow the process to add a Zoom Phone Appliance.
  6. Factory reset phone by navigating to Settings > Advanced > Administrator Settings > Reset to Defaults > Reset to Factory.
    The device's firmware will update. This process may take 10 minutes and multiple reboots. Wait until the update completes and reboots have stopped before continuing.
  7. Power up the device and go through startup menu:
    • Set and confirm the new admin password
    • Accept the EULA
    • Choose Language
    • Select the time zone
    • Select the Base Profile as Zoom Phone
    • Click Yes to continue
  8. After the phone reboots, if not signed in already, follow the steps to sign in to the Zoom Phone Appliance.

Converting a phone already in use with Zoom Phone

If the phone is currently in use and assigned to a user or common area phone, follow these steps to convert it to a Zoom Phone Appliance.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Phones & Devices.
  3. Click the display name of the phone you are converting.
  4. At the bottom of the page, click Actions, then Convert.
  5. In the dialog window, click Convert.
    Your device will be added to Device Management and will reboot, and you will be redirected to the Device List page.
  6. While the device is rebooting, in the Set Admin Password dialog window, you can enter your desired admin password.
    The device will finish the booting process and you might be asked to set your admin password again if you decided to bypass it earlier.
  7. If not signed in already, follow the steps to sign in to the Zoom Phone Appliance.

Converting back to Zoom SIP mode

If the phone is currently in Zoom Phone Appliance mode, follow these steps to convert back to SIP mode registered to Zoom Phone.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Device Management then Device List.
  3. Locate the phone you want to convert, click the ellipses button (...) in the right-side column, then click Remove from Zoom.
    Note: If the Zoom Phone Appliance is signed in by the user, removing it from Device Management, does not force user logout.
  4. Follow the process to provision the phone to Zoom Phone.
  5. Make sure the device is in a logout state.
  6. Tap on the phone screen, then tap the setting gear icon.
  7. Tap General, tap System Settings, then tap Advanced.
  8. Enter the local admin password.
  9. Tap Administration Settings, tap Reset to Defaults, then tap Reset to Factory.
    Note: The device firmware will update and may take up to 10 minutes with multiple reboot. Wait until the updates are completed and reboots have stopped before continuing.

After rebooting, the phone will be assigned to the phone user.
