Sending a screenshot, file, photo, or celebration reaction

In addition to messages, you can send screenshots, images, files, and celebration reactions to a chat contact, group chat, or channel using Zoom Chat. These features are available for both Zoom's standard chat encryption and advanced chat encryption.

You can also send and play video files through Zoom Chat in the Zoom desktop app and mobile app.

How to send files and images in Zoom Chat

Windows | macOS | Linux

Take and send a screenshot

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. In the navigation bar, click the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Select the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send a screenshot to.
  4. Below the text compose box, click the More icon image of the More icon.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select the Screenshot icon image of the Screenshot icon.
  6. Click and drag your mouse around the portion of the screen you want to capture.
  7. (Optional) Add any additional annotations, such as arrows, lines, boxes, or text.

  8. Click Capture.
    The captured image will appear in your text compose box.
  9. (Optional) In the text compose box, enter any text to accompany the screenshot.
  10. Press Enter to send.

Send a file or image

Note: Your account owner or admin can limit who you can send and receive files from.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. In the navigation bar, click the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Choose the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send a file to.
  4. Below the text compose box, click the More icon image of the More icon.
    Note: You can also directly click and drag the file to the text compose box.
  5. From the drop-down menu, select the Attach file icon image of the Attach file icon.
  6. Choose the file source.
    Note: You can also choose a third-party service, if your admin has enabled file-sharing integrations.
  7. Browse the file system and select the file or image you want to send.
    Note: While the file is uploading, you can click the cancel icon × if you want to cancel the upload.
  8. (Optional) Enter any text to accompany the file.
  9. Press Enter to send.

Send a celebration reaction

In the text compose box, enter Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary.

The celebration reaction will briefly appear on your chat window.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom Web App.
  2. In the navigation bar, click the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Choose the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send the file to.
  4. Below the text compose box, click the Screenshot icon image of the Screenshot icon.
  5. Click and drag your mouse around the portion of the screen you want to capture.
  6. (Optional) Add any additional annotations, such as arrows, lines, boxes, or text.
  7. Click Screenshot.
    The captured image will appear in your text compose box.
  8. (Optional) Enter any text to accompany the screenshot.
  9. Press Enter to send.

Take and send a screenshot

You need to take a screenshot using your device's settings and follow the steps below for sending an image.

Send an image

  1. Sign in to the Zoom mobile app.
  2. In the navigation bar, tap the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Choose the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send a file to.
  4. Beside the text compose box, tap the plus icon image of the plus icon.
  5. Tap the Photo icon image of the Photo icon.
  6. Tap the circle in each image to select them.
  7. Tap Done.
  8. (Optional) Enter any text to accompany the screenshot.
  9. Tap the send icon image of the send icon.

Use the camera to take and send a photo

  1. Sign in to the Zoom mobile app.
  2. In the navigation bar, tap the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Choose the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send a file to.
  4. Beside the text compose box, tap the plus icon image of the plus icon.
  5. Tap the Camera icon image of the Camera icon.
  6. Use your device's built-in camera to take a photo.
  7. Tap Use Photo to send, or Retake.
  8. (Optional) Enter any text to accompany the screenshot.
  9. Tap the send icon image of the send icon.

Send a file

  1. Sign in to the Zoom mobile app.
  2. In the navigation bar, tap the Chat tab image of the Chat tab.
  3. Choose the contact, group chat, or channel you want to send a file to.
  4. Beside the text compose box, tap the plus icon image of the plus icon.
  5. Tap the File icon image of the File icon.
  6. Choose where the file is located.
    Note: If you choose a third-party service like Dropbox, you will be prompted to sign in and grant Zoom access to your account.
  7. Browse the file system and tap the file you want to send.
  8. (Optional) Enter any text to accompany the screenshot.
  9. Tap the send icon image of the send icon.

Send a celebration reaction

In the text compose box, enter Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary.

The celebration reaction will briefly appear on your chat window.
