Using Zoom’s Asana Chat app
Zoom’s Asana Chat app allows you to track your work and access your Asana tasks from Team Chat. With this app, you can receive notifications and messages from a chatbot when there are changes in your Asana projects or tasks.

Prerequisites for using Zoom’s Asana Chat app
- An Asana account
- Zoom’s Asana Chat app is pre-approved by your admin
How to connect Team Chat and Asana Chat app
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace with your Zoom account.
- In the top right of your screen, enter Asana Chat in the search box to find the app.
- In your search results, find the Asana Chat app and click it.

Note: If the app is not pre-approved, contact your Zoom admin to approve the app for your account.
- Click Add.
- Confirm the permissions the app requires, then click Allow.
Note: If your admin has installed the Asana Chat app, it will be automatically installed for you in the Zoom desktop client.
Once the Asana Chat app is installed, you will be redirected to the Asana Add Subscription page.
How to authenticate your Asana account in Team Chat
- After you install the Asana Chat app and are redirected to Asana, authenticate your Asana account and authorize Zoom.
Once authorization is completed, you will return to Zoom Chat. - Select an Asana workspace to connect.
- Disconnect and reconnect your Asana account to connect to a different workspace using /asana disconnect and /asana connect.
How to create tasks from the compose box
- At the bottom of the Team Chat compose box, click the Asana icon.
- Click Create Task.
- Specify a Task Name and select the project.
Only projects you are a member of will appear on the list. - (Optional) Complete the following actions:
- Assign the task to a member
- Specify a due date
- Specify a section
- Add a description to the task
- Click Create.
The Asana Chat app will respond with a message—only visible to you—to confirm the task was created in Asana. The app card will include information about the task and allow you to reassign, change the due date, comment, or mark as Complete.
How to create a task from a chat message
- Hover your cursor next to a message.
Additional options will appear to the right of the message. - Click the ellipsis icon .
- Select Create Task.
- Specify a Task Name and select the project.
The message content will pre-populate in the description field. - (Optional) Complete the following actions:
- Assign the task to a member
- Specify a due date
- Specify a section
- Add a description to the task
- Click Create.

How to share a message to a task
Share as a comment from the compose box
- At the bottom of the Team Chat compose box, select the Asana icon.
- Select Share Message to Task.
The message content will pre-populate in the message field. - Search by task name or keyword.
- Select a task.
- (Optional) Add to the description.
- Press the Comment button.
The Asana Chat app will respond with a message—only visible to you—to confirm the task was created in Asana. The app card will include information about the task and allow you to reassign, change the due date, comment, or mark as Complete.
Share as a comment from a chat message
- Hover your cursor next to a message.

- Select Share Message to Task.

- Select a task.
- (Optional) Add to the description.
- Press the Comment button.

How to configure Asana notifications
Complete the following steps for each channel that you would like to receive Asana notifications:
- In a conversation, enter the command /asana configure in the compose box.
You will be directed to the Configure Asana Notification page. - Click the Add Rule button.
- Choose up to five projects and select the event you want to receive notifications.
- Click Save.
You will receive notifications in that Zoom Chat channel based on your configurations. Note: You can create up to 10 notification rules for Asana.
How to connect your Asana account in Team Chat
- To connect your Asana account in Team Chat, type /asana connect.
You will be redirected to the Connect to Asana page. - Complete authorization.
Once the authorization is completed, you will return to Zoom Chat. - Select an Asana workspace to connect.
How to disconnect your Asana account or change workspace in Team Chat
- In a conversation's compose box, type the command /asana disconnect.
- To select a new workspace, reconnect by entering /asana connect in a compose box, then select an Asana workspace in the dropdown.
How to remove the Asana Chat app from Team Chat
- In a conversation, enter the command /asana configure in a compose box.
- Click Remove Asana and confirm.
How to remove the Asana Chat app from your Zoom account
- Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace with your Zoom account.
- In the top right corner of the page, click Manage.
- In the navigation menu, click Added Apps.
- Next to the Asana Chat app, click Remove.
A confirmation window will appear. - In the confirmation window, click Remove to confirm.
Data security
- This app has access to the following information on Zoom:
- View all groups subscribed to by a Zoom user under the Zoom account.
- View existing meeting details for a Zoom user under the Zoom account.
- View information of a Zoom user under the Zoom account.
- This app has access to the following information on Asana:
- Your tasks, projects, and teams.
- Teams and members are read-only for us.
- The only write permission we use is for creating, editing, and masking tasks as complete.
- This chat app has the following permissions on Zoom:
- This chat app can send a chat message to an IM channel or Zoom user under the Zoom account.
- Communications between this chat app and the Zoom/Asana Chat app are encrypted:
- Protocol: TLS 1.2
- Cipher suite: ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256
- Key length: 128 bits
- Perfect Forward Secrecy: YES
- This chat app stores access credentials in the local data store:
- Asana API tokens and Zoom OAuth credentials (both admin-level only) are stored in an encrypted database.
