Assigning or removing Zoom licenses from users

Licenses grant users access to specific Zoom functionality and products based on their assigned permissions. Account owners and admins can assign or remove Zoom licenses, permissions, and add-ons from users on the User Management page in the Zoom web portal. You can edit users' licenses one at a time or in bulk for a group of users.

Notes:

Limitations of assigning Zoom licenses

If you receive an error message related to exceeding the limit of license assignment for your account, you will not be able to assign licenses at this time. The license assignment limit is based on the number of purchased licenses you have.

How to assign Zoom licenses, permissions, and add-ons

Account owners and admins can assign available Zoom Workplace licenses and permissions or add-ons to users in the Zoom web portal, either individually or in bulk.

Add-on licenses may include Large Meeting, Zoom Webinars, Zoom Phone, Zoom Events, Zoom Sessions, Zoom Revenue Accelerator, Zoom Whiteboard Plus, Zoom Translated Captions, Visitor Management, and more.

Note: Licenses of the same type, such as Webinar and Large Meeting, do not compound or stack when multiple of the same type are assigned to a user.

Assign licenses or add-ons to a user

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click User Management then Users.
  3. Locate or search for the user you want to assign a license, permission, or add-on to.
  4. At the end of the user row, click Edit.
The Edit User window will open where you can add or remove permissions from the user.
  5. (Optional) To assign a Zoom Workplace license, in the Zoom Workplace drop-down, select an available license.
Note: If you don't have any licenses available, learn how to purchase additional licenses
  6. (Optional) In the Licenses and add-ons section, select the check box next to each add-on you want to assign to the user. For Large Meeting, Webinar, or Zoom Events licenses, choose the option for the size of the license, if it is not automatically selected.
  7. Click Save.
The license is now applied to the user and they can use it immediately.

Assign licenses or add-ons in bulk

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click User Management then Users.
  3. Locate or search for the users who you want to assign a license.
  4. Select the check box to the left of each user you want to assign the same license to.
  5. In the Change Licenses drop-down, select the license type or add-on you want to assign.
  6. In the pop-up, confirm the users and licenses or features you want to change.
  7. Click Save.
The licenses are now applied to the users, and they can use them immediately. If you receive an error that only paid users can enable this feature, you may be trying to assign an add-on to a user that does not have the necessary base license that the add-on requires.

How to remove Zoom licenses, permissions, or add-ons

Account owners and admins can also unassign licenses in the Zoom web portal, either individually or in bulk. Some licenses and add-ons are dependent on having a Zoom Workplace base license, so if you remove a Zoom Workplace license from a user, they will also be prevented from having those additional licenses or add-ons assigned, such as the Large Meeting add-on or a Zoom Webinars license.

Note: If you want to reduce the number of licenses on your account, you will need to unassign them from users.

Unassign licenses or add-ons from a user

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click User Management then Users.
  3. Locate or search for the user you want to remove a license, permission, or add-on from.
  4. At the end of the user row, click Edit.
The Edit User window will open where you can add or remove permissions from the user.
  5. (Optional) To remove a Zoom Workplace license, do the following:
    1. In the Zoom Workplace drop-down, select Unassigned.
    2. (Optional) In the Licenses and add-ons section, select or clear the Zoom Meetings Basic check box. If selected, the user can host and schedule meetings up to 40 minutes. If this check box is not selected, then this user can sign in and join meetings, but they will not be able to schedule or host their own meetings.
  6. (Optional) In the Licenses and add-ons section, clear the check box next to each license, add-on, or permission that you want to remove from the user.
Note: Many licenses and add-ons are dependent on having a Zoom Workplace license. If you unassigned a Zoom Workplace license, the user may not have any additional licenses to remove.
  7. Click Save.
