Elevating or inviting a call to a Zoom meeting

If you make a call using Zoom Phone, you can easily convert or elevate the phone call to a Zoom meeting. The other user can be on an external phone service, Zoom desktop client, or Zoom mobile app.

Note: If you're in a Zoom meeting while in a Zoom Phone call, you can switch between or merge the phone call and meeting.

Note: Provisioned desk phones do not support elevating to a Zoom meeting. As a workaround, use call flip to transfer the call to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app, then follow this article to convert the call.

How to elevate a call to an instant meeting

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap Meet using the in-call controls.

What a happens to the other participant when you elevate a call to an instant meeting

The following scenarios will happen depending on whether the other call participant is using Zoom Phone (desktop client, mobile app) or regular phone line.

Note: The Waiting Room is disabled by default for instant meetings and Zoom Phone calls elevated to a meeting. You can only enable Waiting Room for these meetings using the Security option in your in-meeting controls.

How to invite a call to a meeting by using the meeting URL

You can also invite a call to an existing scheduled or instant meeting by entering the meeting URL. 

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop client or mobile app.
  2. Make or receive a phone call using Zoom Phone.
  3. Click or tap More using the in-call controls.
  4. Click or tap Invite to Meeting.
  5. Enter the meeting ID.
  6. Click Invite.
    Note: If you have Waiting Room or passcode enabled for the scheduled meeting, the original call participant will have to enter the Waiting Room or passcode to join the meeting.
