Using Google Hangouts Chat integration for Zoom


Zoom’s Hangouts Chat integration allows you to start an instant meeting or join a scheduled meeting using BOT commands. Meetings created through Hangouts will appear on your Zoom account meeting list.

Install and configure from the Zoom App Marketplace

  1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace with your Zoom account.
  2. In the top right of your screen, enter Hangouts in the search box to find the app.
  3. In your search results, find the Hangouts app and click it.
    Note: If the app is not pre-approved, please contact your Zoom admin to approve the app for your account.
  4. Click Add
  5. Confirm the permissions the app requires, then click Allow.
    You will be redirected to your Google Hangouts account and the Zoom BOT will be enabled.

Install and configure the integration from Hangouts Chat

  1. Sign in to your Google Hangouts account.
  2. Click the + icon, then click Message A BOT.
  3. Search for Zoom, then choose to message the BOT.
    The Zoom BOT will greet you. Reply back start to authorize and configure the BOT.
  4. In the following pop-up box, click Configure to set up the BOT.
    You will be redirected to authorize the Hangouts Chat and Zoom integration.
  5. Once you sign in and authorize, you can use the Zoom BOT at any time.

How to use the Zoom BOT

List all commands

Type help to list all possible commands. The BOT will display the following:

Start a meeting

  1. Type @Zoom.
  2. Select the Zoom BOT.
  3. Input start to start a meeting.
    Note: This will use your default settings from your Zoom meeting settings and create a meeting in your Zoom Meeting list. Additionally, if your meeting settings require a password, the password will be sent as a message for all members.
  4. Click Join to join the meeting.
    Zoom will open a link in your browser and open the Zoom application.

Start a meeting with a specific topic

  1. Type @Zoom.
  2. Select the Zoom BOT
  3. Enter start followed by the desired topic name to start a meeting with the specified topic name.
    Note: This will use your default settings from your meeting settings and create a meeting in your Zoom Meeting list. Additionally, if your meeting settings require a password, the password will be sent as a message for all members.
  4. Click Join to join the meeting.
    Zoom will open a link in your browser and open the Zoom application.

Join a meeting

  1. Type @Zoom.
  2. Select the Zoom BOT.
  3. Enter join followed by the Meeting ID of the meeting that you want to join.
  4. Click the Click here to join link.
    Zoom will open a link in your browser and open the Zoom application.

When the meeting ends, the BOT will post a meeting summary and a recording link (if the meeting is recorded using the cloud).

How to uninstall the Zoom BOT

  1. Sign in to your Google Hangouts account.
  2. Click the + icon and click Message A BOT.
  3. Search for Zoom, then choose to message the BOT.
  4. Reply to the BOT by typing logout.
    This will deauthorize the Zoom BOT.
