Using click-to-dial and highlight-to-call


Zoom Phone users can enable the click-to-dial feature to automatically dial a number by clicking on the phone number. Click-to-dial works on applications that support hyperlinks, like browsers, email/calendar clients, and Microsoft Office. These links must be tagged with the callto, tel, or zoomphone link type for click-to-dial to work.

Prerequisites for using click-to-dial and highlight-to-call

Enabling click-to-dial

  1. Type "default apps" in the Windows search bar.
  2. Click Default apps in the search results.
  3. Scroll down and click Choose defaults by link type. If you're using Windows 11, click Choose defaults by link type.
  4. Find CALLTO, click Choose a default, then select Zoom Meetings. If you already have an app assigned, click it and select Zoom Meetings.
  5. Find TEL, click Choose a default, then select Zoom Meetings. If you already have an app assigned, click it and select Zoom Meetings.

Using click-to-dial

  1. Click on a phone number located in a program that supports hyperlinks like Microsoft Office. The phone number must be properly tagged with the callto or tel protocols. Usually, you can hover the phone number to see if it's tagged.
  2. If prompted, select Zoom Meetings and select Always use this app.
  3. Click OK.
    Zoom Phone will dial the selected number.

Using click-to-dial (web browser)

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Click on a phone number located on a website. The phone number must be properly tagged with callto or tel protocols. You can hover a phone number to see if it's tagged.
  3. When prompted, click the option to choose an app to open the link.
    • Chrome: Click Open Pick an app. Click the check box if you want Chrome to automatically open Zoom when you click on phone numbers.
    • Firefox: Select Pick an app and click Open link. Click the check box if you want Firefox to automatically open Zoom when you click on phone numbers.
  4. If prompted, select Zoom Meetings and select Always use this app.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Zoom Phone will dial the selected number.
  7. Click the phone icon to call the number.

Using highlight-to-call

  1. Access the settings for keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Scroll down to the Ctrl+P shortcut, Call highlighted number/Search Directory.
  3. Make sure the Enable Global Shortcut check box is selected.
  4. Highlight a phone number in any application; for example in Microsoft Outlook or a web browser.
  5. Press Ctrl+P to call the number.

Enabling click-to-dial

  1. Open FaceTime.
  2. From the main menu, click FaceTime then Preferences.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Default for calls field at the bottom of the window, select zoom.us.
    Note: If zoom.us is not visible in the list of options, sign out and sign back in to your macOS.

Using highlight-to-call

  1. Access the settings for keyboard shortcuts.
  2. Scroll down to the ^⇧C shortcut, Call highlighted number/Search Directory.
  3. Make sure the Enable Global Shortcut check box is selected.
  4. Highlight a phone number in any application; for example in Microsoft Outlook or a web browser.
  5. Press Ctrl+Shift+C (^⇧C) to call the number.

 

Using tap-to-dial

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Tap on a phone number located on a website. The phone number must be properly tagged with tel. 
  3. When prompted, tap the option to open the link with Zoom.
  4. If prompted, tap Just once to only use Zoom this one time to open the tel link.
  5. (Optional) Tap Always to set Zoom as the default app to open tel links.
    Zoom Phone will automatically call the selected number.
