Using Crestron Mercury as Zoom Rooms controller

The Crestron Mercury is a device for the conference room that, when attached to a Zoom Room, can operate as a combination of a speakerphone and a controller. Zoom and Crestron have partnered to provide this combined solution by embedding the Zoom Rooms controller software within the Crestron Mercury firmware. The Crestron Mercury is available either as part of a Zoom Rooms Crestron Kit or as a standalone device. Additional details are available on the Crestron Zoom Rooms, Crestron Support and Release Notes websites.

Prerequisites for using Crestron Mercury as a Zoom Rooms contoller

Note: The Zoom Rooms Crestron Kit already includes these components with the exception of the flat panel display.

How to set up a Crestron Mercury device as a Zoom Rooms Controller

To use the device in a Zoom Rooms Crestron Kit as the Zoom Rooms controller:

  1. Configure the Zoom Room on the Zoom web portal.
See Add Zoom Rooms for instructions.
  2. Follow the instructions in the document for your Zoom Rooms Crestron Kit.

To use a standalone Crestron Mercury as the Zoom Rooms controller:

  1. Configure the Zoom Room on the Zoom web portal.
See Add Zoom Rooms for instructions.
  2. Make sure that the device is operating in Zoom Rooms mode. Wait for your Crestron Mercury device to show the Zoom Rooms Sign In page, which can take several minutes.
  3. (Optional) if Zoom Rooms mode is not enabled, follow the instructions below or troubleshoot with the Crestron guide
    • Tap the Home button.

    • Press and hold Help for approximately 10 seconds to display the System Info screen. Note the IP address or host name and tap X to close the screen.

    • On a computer connected to the same network as the device, open a web browser and enter the IP address of the Mercury on the address bar and hit Enter.

    • On the Welcome screen, click Sign In to continue.

    • Enter the default user name “admin” and password “admin”, then press Enter to continue.
Note: Prior to displaying the prompt for login credentials, the web browser may display a security warning message about the security certificate. It is safe to ignore this warning as long as the user verifies that the browser’s address bar indicates the correct IP address or host name of the device.

    • On the left-hand side menu, click Device.

    • Navigate to the Applications tab.

    • Select Zoom Rooms from the Application Mode drop-down menu.

    • Click Save Changes.

    • If the Zoom Room set up on the Intel NUC or Mac mini computer is already online, sign in to your Zoom admin account on the Mercury and select the Zoom Room from the list. Otherwise, enter the pairing code found on the Zoom Room display connected to the computer.
Note: If you see a Sharing Key instead, click Sign Out to view the pairing code.

  4. Follow the instructions for setting up a Zoom Room, as described in Getting Started with Zoom Rooms.
Note: Instead of configuring a separate tablet, configure the Crestron Mercury display as the controller.

The Crestron Mercury device is now enabled as the Zoom Room controller, and can be used in exactly the same way as the Zoom Rooms Android controller. See Zoom Rooms Controller Features and Zoom Rooms Attendee Features for details.
