Using and customizing DTMF codes


You can dial DTMF codes to easily access certain Zoom Phone features like checking your voicemail or hiding your caller ID. If you're an admin, you can also customize certain codes.

The following table lists the default DTMF codes for Zoom Phone. Click the embedded links in the Feature column to view more details and prerequisites for each feature.

This DTMF code also works for shared line groups by selecting the group's direct number before calling *86.

Dial *82 before the phone number to enforce caller ID.

Out in/out of shared line group

Dial *85 follow by the shared line group extension to opt in or out.

Park a call

Dial *5 during an active call to park it. To retrieve parked call, press * followed by the retrieval code; for example, *811.

For example, if you can monitor extension 118, calling *338118 while the phone user is on a call will take over their call.

Switching call monitoring feature while monitoring a call

While in monitoring a phone user, use these keycodes to switch between listen, whisper, barge, and take over.

You can't use these codes when you takeover a call. 

Barge into a call (internal safety response team)

3 or *2

While monitoring an emergency call, members of an internal safety response team can press 3 or *2 to barge into the call.

Transfer to other extension's voicemail

Press the soft key to transfer to voicemail, press **(extension), then press Transfer.

The Zoom desktop client / mobile app, Yealink phones, and Poly phones have menu options for this, so there's no need to use the DTMF code.

Start or stop ad hoc or automatic call recording(*)

Dial *7 during an active call to start or stop an ad hoc or automatic call recording.

Your admin can control your access to record calls. Contact your admin if this code doesn't work for you.

Reserved testing number for VDI media detection only

!9-6-6-6-8-3-4!

This number is a reserved number and cannot be used for setup.

(*)For automatic call recording, the Allow extensions to stop and resume automatic call recording policy setting must be selected to allow the DTMF code to work.

How to customize DTMF codes (admins)

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal. 
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management, then Company Info.
  3. Click Account Settings at the top.
  4. Scroll down to the Desk Phone section.
  5. Under Customize * and # Codes, click Edit next to the code you want to customize.
  6. Enter *, **, or # followed by 1 to 3 digits.
    Note: Some codes will not be available if it conflicts with an existing DTMF code.
  7. Click Save.
