Zoom Rooms camera controls
Zoom Rooms allows you to control your local HD camera during a meeting with the Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) functionality. The Zoom Rooms controller also supports far end camera control and camera presets. If more than two cameras are available in the Zoom Room, you can dynamically choose which one is active by selecting it from a list when you tap Switch Camera on the Zoom Rooms controller. If only two cameras are available, the Switch Camera control toggles between them. Aside from these basic controls, Zoom Rooms also supports several different camera modes, depending on the available hardware.
Requirements for Zoom Rooms camera controls
- Zoom Rooms controller app for iPad or Android global minimum version or higher
- Zoom Rooms for Mac global minimum version or higher
- Zoom Rooms for PC global minimum version or higher
- Zoom Rooms Appliances global minimum version or higher
- PTZ Camera with UVC control support
- Note: UVC is defined as "USB Video Class", which is a standardized set of protocols developed by the USB Implementers Forum and is assigned to a device class of USB devices that stream video. Any UVC compliant device will allow UVC pan/tilt/zoom control of that camera, if implemented correctly on the device.
Controlling a local camera
If your Zoom Room uses a PTZ Camera with UVC controls, you can use your controller to move the camera to a different position.
To control the camera in your Zoom Room:
- Start or join a meeting.
- Tap the Camera Control icon.
- Use the icons on the Camera Control popup to zoom and pan until the camera is in the position you need.
- Tap Done to return to the meeting controls.
Note: If you do not want to use the mirror effect for your own video display (where the display of your own Zoom Room looks like a mirror), you can disable this setting by clicking the toggle
.
Using camera presets
When using a certified camera that supports presets in manual mode, you may move the camera to a preset position, save a new preset position (up to three, total), or configure one of the presets as a default camera position.
To configure a camera preset:
- Start or join a meeting.
- Tap the Camera Control icon.
- Touch and hold one of the preset buttons.
- If the Zoom Room settings are currently locked, a popup asks for the passcode. Enter the passcode for the Zoom Room and tap OK. Touch and hold one of the preset buttons again.
- Tap Save position, then use the icons to zoom or pan the camera to the position you want as the preset.
- Tap Rename to change the name of the preset button that displays to participants on the Zoom Room controller.
- (Optional) Repeat steps 5-6 for the other buttons.
- Tap Save as Default Position if you would like the camera to use a preset every time the room starts or joins a meeting in manual camera mode.
- Tap the X icon at the top right of the Camera Control window when you are finished configuring the presets. The buttons are now available for anyone using the Zoom Room controller. They do not need a passcode to move the camera to one of the preset positions, but they cannot change or rename the presets.
Controlling a remote camera
You can remotely control the camera of another participant or another Zoom Room if you are using an iPad controller version 4.0 or later. To remotely control another camera:
- Start or join a meeting.
- Tap the Manage Participants icon to display the list of meeting participants.
- Tap the name of the participant whose camera you want to control, then choose Request Camera Control.
- The participant receives a message, asking for approval. After the participant approves the request, you see a message letting you know that you can control the camera.
- Tap Now to display the camera controls for the remote participant.
- Use the icons to zoom and pan until the camera is in the correct position.
- Tap Give up Camera Control to return to the Manage Participants popup.
- Tap Done on the Participants popup to return to the meeting controls.
Switching cameras
- Start or join a meeting.
- Tap Switch Camera on the controller.
- A menu will display all available cameras. Tap a camera name to select that camera, which will immediately become active. You can do this any time you want to change the active camera.
