The Cerner app enables practitioners to have video visits with patients through a secure Zoom session. Zoom’s HIPAA/PIPEDA compliant Cerner app enables patients, practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to communicate face-to-face using Zoom video for Cerner video visit appointments.

The app automatically searches for video visit appointments and updates them with Zoom telehealth meeting links. Patients and providers are not required to have Zoom accounts. The app automatically creates Zoom accounts on their behalf.

Practitioners can access the telehealth meeting links in PowerChart. Patients can access the meeting links in their appointment emails.

Prerequisites for using the Cerner app

Note: Integration must be pre-authorized and enabled by Cerner administrators

• Paid Zoom account
  • BAA for HIPAA-enabled compliance
• Account owner or admin privileges
• Patients and practitioners:
  • Zoom desktop client for Windows, macOS, or Linux: Global minimum version or higher

How to install the Cerner app from Zoom App Marketplace

1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace as the account administrator.
2. In the top right of your screen, enter Cerner in the search box.
3. In your search results, find the Cerner app and click it.
4. Click Add. 
5. Confirm the permissions the app requires then click Allow.
   The installer will display the configuration page.

How to configure the app

On the Cerner app configuration page, configure the following to connect the app to Cerner:

1. In the Configuration tab, enter the Cerner BaseURL. 
2. Set the Appointment Time Zone.
3. Click Save.

Add practitioners

To enable practitioners to use the app:

1. In the Practitioners tab, search for Cerner users.
2. Click Add.
3. Repeat this process for each practitioner.

To add additional practitioners at a later time:

1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace as an administrator.
2. In the top right of the page, click Manage.
3. In the navigation menu, click Added Apps.
4. Next to the Cerner app, click Configure.

How to manually update Zoom telehealth meeting links

The app automatically searches for video visit appointments and updates them with Zoom telehealth meeting links. This job runs every hour, but you can also manually initiate this job.

1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace as an administrator.
2. In the top right of the page, click Manage.
3. In the navigation menu, click Added Apps.
4. Next to the Cerner app, click Configure.
5. In the Configuration tab, click the Update practitioner Appointments button.

How to uninstall from the Zoom App Marketplace

1. Sign in to the Zoom App Marketplace as an administrator. 
2. In the top right of the page, click Manage.
3. In the navigation menu, click Added Apps.
4. Next to the Cerner app, click Remove.

Data security

All patient/practitioner data is encrypted and secured.

• Zoom is HIPAA compliant.
• All communications between Zoom and Cerner, as well as Zoom video sessions, are encrypted with AES-256 bit encryption.
• Zoom video visits launched from Cerner are dynamic, password-protected.
• All account-level settings are applicable for your video visit sessions. For example, you can disable recordings, annotations, and other features if needed for security reasons.
• The app automatically creates Zoom users using information from Cerner patient and provider records for meetings and deletes the patient-user accounts when the meeting ends.

How your data is used

This app accesses and uses the meeting settings information from your Zoom account. The app uses the account-wide meeting settings when creating a video visit meeting.

This app accesses and uses the following information from your Cerner account:

• Video visit appointments: Used for creating corresponding Zoom meetings to be used during the video visit. These appointments will be updated with the meeting links for patients and practitioners. The status of these appointments will also be updated when the patient joins the video visit (status = CheckedIn) and when the visit is complete (status = Fulfilled).
• Patient’s Cerner ID: Used in formulating the user ID when creating the Zoom user account. 
• Practitioner’s Cerner ID: Used in formulating the user ID when creating their Zoom user account. 
• Patient name: Used when automatically creating a Zoom account for the video visit meeting. Also displayed during the video visit meeting.
• Patient email: Used for sending email to the patient with information on joining the video visit.
• Practitioner name: Used when automatically creating a Zoom account for the video visit meeting. Also displayed during the video visit meeting.
