Error code 1142 when joining or hosting Zoom meetings
Issue
Users receive error code 1142 when attempting to join or host Zoom meetings from a specific country or region, with messages such as:
- This meeting is not accessible from [country] at this time.
- The meeting ID is not accessible from [region] at this time.
- The call cannot be joined in [country].
- This meeting is not accessible from your region.
This error prevents legitimate participants from accessing scheduled meetings and can affect both hosts and attendees. The issue occurs across different devices and can impact users from various countries.
Environment
- Zoom Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education account.
- Zoom web portal, desktop, and mobile app.
- Scheduled meetings with geographic access restrictions enabled.
- Users attempting to join from various global locations.
- Both one-time and recurring scheduled meetings.
Cause
Error code 1142 is triggered when the Approve or block entry for users from specific countries/regions security setting is enabled and configured to restrict meeting access based on participant location. This can occur at multiple levels:
- Personal account-level settings that apply geographic restrictions to all meetings.
- Individual meeting-level settings that override personal account settings.
- Personal meeting room configurations that block specific countries.
Resolution
Use the steps below to resolve error code 1142 by disabling geographic restrictions or adding required countries to the approved list. The solution depends on whether the restriction is applied at the personal account level or at the individual meeting level setting.
Disable or update geographic restrictions for your personal account
You can fully disable or update geographic restrictions in your personal account (if permitted by your account owner or admin). This will remove restrictions for all scheduled meetings hosted from your account and prevent the error from occurring in future meetings.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- In the navigation menu, click Settings.
- Click the Meeting tab, then do one of the following:
- Click the Edit icon
next to the country list, then add the required countries to the allowed list.
Your list of countries/regions allowed to join your scheduled meetings will be updated. - Under Security, to the right of Approve or block entry for users from specific countries/regions is enabled, click the toggle to disable the setting.
The feature will be disabled for all your scheduled meetings.
Disable or update geographic restrictions for your individual meetings
If you don't want to disable geographic restriction for all your scheduled meetings, you can disable or update the feature for your individual meetings. This solution will address restrictions on specific meetings that may retain previous configurations even after personal account changes.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- In the navigation menu, click Meetings.
- Click the Upcoming tab and locate your meeting.
- Click Edit next to the meeting.
- Next to Options, click Show, then do one of the following:
- Click the Edit icon
next to the country list, then add the required countries to the allowed list. - Your list of countries/regions allowed to join this meeting will be updated.
- Uncheck Approve or block entry to users from specific regions/countries.
The feature will be disabled for this meeting.
- Click Save.
Note: For recurring meetings, you may need to select Edit Entire Series to apply changes to all future occurrences.
Disable or update geographic restrictions for your personal meeting rooms
If you have geographic restrictions applied to your personal meeting room, you can disable or update the feature for this meeting.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- In the navigation menu, click Meetings, then click the Personal Room tab.
- Click Edit.
- Next to Options, click Show, then do one of the following:
- Click the Edit icon
next to the country list, then add the required countries to the allowed list. - Your list of countries/regions allowed to join this meeting will be updated.
- Uncheck Approve or block entry to users from specific regions/countries.
The feature will be disabled for this meeting. - Click Save.
Verify and test participants can join your meetings from a country/region
After making changes, confirm that the geographic restrictions have been properly removed or updated to allow your participants to join from the appropriate country/region.
- Wait a few minutes for the changes to take effect.
- Have affected participants join the meeting again from the affected countries to ensure access is restored.
