Why is my meeting ending after 40 minutes?
When nearing the end of your meeting's allowed duration, you will see a notification that your meeting will end in x amount of minutes. Below are situations where that may happen and how to resolve this.
How to extend meetings past 40 minutes
Assign a license to a user
If you are a basic (free) user on a free account, 40 minutes is the maximum duration your meetings can last. You can either end the meeting and restart it for an additional 40 minutes, or you upgrade to Pro for unlimited meeting durations.
If you are a basic (free) user, 40 minutes is the maximum duration your meetings can last. If you need to have meetings longer than 40 minutes, you can upgrade your account or the account owner or admin will need to assign you a license.
- Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
- In the navigation menu, click User Management then Users.
- Locate or search for the user you want to assign a license, permission, or add-on to.
- At the end of the user row, click Edit.
The Edit User window will open where you can add or remove permissions from the user. - (Optional) To assign a Zoom Workplace license, in the Zoom Workplace drop-down, select an available license.
Note: If you don't have any licenses available, learn how to purchase additional licenses. - (Optional) In the Licenses and add-ons section, select the check box next to each add-on you want to assign to the user. For Large Meeting, Webinar, or Zoom Events licenses, choose the option for the size of the license, if it is not automatically selected.
- Click Save.
The license is now applied to the user and they can use it immediately.
Note: Pairing a Zoom Room with a free user account, then hosting a meeting, will cause that meeting to use the 40 minute time limit tied to free accounts.
Ensure you are signed in to the correct account
If you are a Licensed user and you are receiving the 40-minute notification, you may not be signed in to the appropriate paid account. Make sure to do the following:
- Open the Zoom application.
- In the top-right or left corner, click your profile picture or initials, and double-check the email address you’re signed in with.
- If the email address is different from the one you used to upgrade the account, sign out.
Note: If you’re signed in with the correct email address, you’ll need to contact your administrator to be assigned a paid license. - Sign back in with the email that is associated with your paid account.
Note: If you are a Licensed user and join a meeting hosted by a Basic user, the meeting will have a 40-minute restriction.
