Enabling read receipts for messages


 

The latest sent message in a 1:1 chat or small group chat or channel (20 members max) can show read receipts of who has read the message so far. Visibility of read receipts can be disabled through the Team Chat section of client settings, if allowed by admins.

Disabled by default, account admins can choose to disable this ability for their account, or just restrict the ability to disable read receipts in the Team Chat section of account settings.

For read receipts to be visible, both the sender and the receiver must enable their read receipts. Only users who have enabled read receipts at both the account level and the user-level client setting can see and display their read receipts. For instance, if User A has them enabled and User B does not, User A will not see User B's read status. This rule applies across direct messages, channels, and group chats.

To enable or disable read receipts for all users in the account:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Account Management then Account Settings.
  3. Click the Team Chat tab.
  4. In the Visibility section, click the Enable read receipts toggle to enable or disable it.
  5. (Optional) Select the Allow users to opt out checkbox to grant users the ability to enable or disable this setting at the individual client level. If left unchecked, users will not have access to the user-level client setting, and they won't be able to opt out of disabling their read receipts.
