Configuring and using personalized audio isolation

Desktop app users can enable the Personalized audio isolation audio profile, which aims to better differentiate your voice and suppress background noise, even in open environments.

For users who elect to enable personal audio isolation, Zoom will collect an automatic voiceprint from meetings that the user joins to enhance their voice in meetings and suppress background noise. This automatic voiceprint will be stored locally on the user’s device until they delete it, which they can do at any time in their audio settings.

To further improve background noise suppression, users can also choose to make a short voiceprint recording of themselves reading a Zoom-provided script.  The reference voiceprint recording will be analyzed by Zoom and used together with the automatic voiceprint to further improve voice isolation in the user’s meetings.  The reference voiceprint recording will be stored by Zoom until the user deletes it, which they can do at any time in their audio settings.

Differences when using personalized audio isolation with and without a voiceprint recording

Personalized audio isolation can help filter out background noise, and is more effective if the user elects to create a voiceprint recording. Below details some of the differences between using personalized audio isolation with and without a voiceprint recording.

When personalized audio isolation is selected during a meeting, a non-headset mic is detected, and the user has not created a voiceprint recording, standard Zoom background noise removal will automatically be used.

How to enable personalized audio isolation

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
  3. Click the Audio  tab.
  4. Under the Audio Profile section, select Personalized audio isolation.
A consent prompt will appear, explaining the automatic generation of your voiceprint in a future meeting.
  5. Click Ok to provide consent and continue.
By default, the next time you speak in a meeting, the app will attempt to create an automatic voiceprint of your voice.
You can also create a voiceprint recording, which further improves audio quality.

Delete your automatic voiceprint

After an automatic voiceprint is created during a meeting, users can also delete it at any time.
Note: Deleting the automatic voiceprint does not also change the audio setting, so a new automatic voiceprint will be created during the next meeting. To disable the creation of the automatic voiceprint, users must select a different audio profile.

  1. In the Audio Profile section, under the Personalized audio isolation profile, click Delete voiceprints.
    A prompt will appear.
  2. Click Delete voiceprint to continue.
    Your automatic voiceprint is deleted.

How to create a voiceprint recording

  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click your profile picture, then click Settings.
  3. Click the Audio  tab.
  4. Under Microphone, ensure the correct audio device is selected.
  5. Under the Voiceprint section, click Create voiceprint recording.
    A consent prompt will appear.
  6. Click Ok to provide consent and continue.
Another window will appear with a brief text as your script, input level indicator, and a Start Recording option.
  7. Click Start Recording and begin audibly reading the script.
Note: Some best practices for recording your voiceprint: Speak as you normally would in terms of tone, speed, and loudness for at least 30 seconds, reduce or remove sources of background noise.
  8. Click Stop recording when complete.
  9. Please wait while your recording is analyzed.
Another prompt will appear when the analysis is complete.
  10. Click Close.
This voiceprint recording will be used with the automatically generated voiceprint when the Personalized audio isolation profile is selected.
  11. (Optional) Click Update voiceprint recording to re-record and analyze a new voiceprint recording.

Delete your voiceprint recording

After a voiceprint recording is created, users can delete it at any time.
Note: This will decrease the effectiveness of the Personalized audio isolation audio profile.

  1. Under the Voiceprint section, click Delete voiceprints.
  2. Click Delete voiceprint to continue.
    Your voiceprint recording is deleted.
