Using Call summary with AI

When this feature is enabled, Call summary with AI in Zoom Phone allows users and participants to generate summaries of their ongoing phone conversations. This feature uses AI technology, which may include third-party models, and allows users to initiate an AI-generated call summary. At the end of the call, these summaries are automatically accessible to each person through the call history logs within the Zoom app or the web portal. The summary includes dates, names, and key discussion points that can be edited and emailed as needed. Users can view a condensed or complete version of the summary based on their preference.

Note: Zoom AI features may not be available for select verticals and select regional customers.

How to generate a phone call summary 

  1. Make or receive calls.
  2. While on a call, in the phone dialer, click Summarize to initiate a summary.
    A dialog box will appear, letting you and your participants know Call Summary with AI is enabled for the call.
  3. Click Stop summary to stop the summary.

How to access your call summary

Windows | macOS | Linux
  1. Sign in to the Zoom desktop app.
  2. Click the Phone tab .
  3. Click the History tab.
  4. At the top of the page, click the Filter call history icon, then select Summary.
  5. Click the entry you want to view, identify the call summary you need, then click View full summary.
    A pop-up window will appear with a quick recap, next steps, and summary.
  6. Click one of the following icons as necessary:
    • Canvas : Create a Zoom Canvas Doc containing your call summary after the call ends. After completing a call with call summary enabled, you have the option to manually create a Zoom Canvas Doc that includes an automatically generated call summary, next steps, and other sections based on selected templates. The document automatically includes the AI-generated call summary and next steps.
    • Share : Share the summary with another user.
      The current version of the summary will be sent, and no other version.
    • Copy to clipboard : To copy the summary and next step.
      The summary will be saved to your clipboard for you to paste where you need.
    • Edit : To manually edit the summary as needed.
      Notes:
    • Trash : To delete the summary.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone.
  3. Click the History tab.
  4. To the right of your summarized call, under the Summary column, click View more to view the summary, then click one of the following as necessary:
    • Canvas : Create a Zoom Canvas Doc containing your call summary. After completing a call with call summary enabled, you have the option to manually create a Zoom Canvas Doc that includes an automatically generated call summary, next steps, and other sections based on selected templates. The document automatically includes the AI-generated call summary and next steps.
    • Share: Enter the email address of the person you want to share the summary with, then click Share.
    • Copy: The summary will be copied to a clipboard for you to paste wherever you need.
    • Edit: Edit your summary and enter any Next Steps as necessary, then click Save.
      Note: You can view call summaries generated from the default template. You can also edit it with rich text.
    • Delete: Click Delete to permanently delete and remove the call summary within the Zoom product.

How to manage and generate Tasks for Call Summary with AI

When Automatically generate tasks from phone call summary is enabled, you can receive AI-generated task recommendations based on your call summaries and can create tasks manually using a dedicated button that opens the task creation dialog. The feature includes right-click functionality on calls for direct task creation and displays all generated tasks when viewing call history. Call participants can be automatically added as task collaborators based on admin configuration.

View auto-generated recommended tasks based on your call summary

  1. Access the call summary you want to manage.
    The Next steps from the call summary will be displayed as hyperlinks.
  2. Click a Next steps hyperlink.
    A pop-up window will appear.
  3. In the window, view the recommended task and edit its details as needed.
  4. Click Accept.
    The task will be created.
  5. (Optional) In the recommended task panel, click View in Tasks to manage your task.

Manually create a task

  1. Access the call summary you want to manage.
  2. Hover your cursor over the call summary, click the ellipsis , then click Create task.
    A pop-up window will appear.
  3. In the window, edit the task details as needed.
  4. Click Create.
    The task will be created.
  5. (Optional) In the recommended task panel, click View in Tasks to manage your task.

    The task will be created, and a success message will appear.

  1. Access the call summary you want to manage.
  2. Long-press the call summary, then tap Create task.
    A pop-up window will appear.
  3. In the window, edit the task details as needed.
  4. Tap Create.
    The task will be created, and a success message will appear.
  5. (Optional) In the success message, tap Open in Tasks to manage your task.

How to request admin enablement for Call Summary with AI

Depending on your admin's settings for Call Summary with AI (and whether the feature is shown in Zoom Phone), you may be able to request that an admin enable Call Summary with AI.

If your admin has hidden Call Summary with AI in Zoom Phone, the request button will not appear.

    A pop-up window will appear.
  3. In the window, click Send request to request that an admin enable Call Summary with AI.
