Advance notice of end of support for Zoom Rooms Controller on iOS 12.x

Zoom strives to provide frictionless and secure video communications empowering people to accomplish more. As part of our commitments to quality and security, planned Zoom Rooms iPad Controller version 6.3.5, forecast to be released in January 2025, will be the final version that will support Apple iOS 12.x.

Apple devices running Apple iOS 12.x will be unable to upgrade to or install Zoom Rooms iPad Controller after the planned version 6.3.5. There are no exceptions possible; Apple App Store policies will prevent iPads running iOS 12.x or less from upgrading to or installing Zoom Rooms iPad Controller after planned version 6.3.5.

The end of support for Zoom Rooms iPad Controller for iOS 12.x most strongly affects the following iPad models, which cannot upgrade past iOS 12.x:

Background

Based on Apple’s past practice of announcing that applications submitted to the Apple App Store must be built with higher versions of Apple Xcode developer tools every year in April, Zoom anticipates that in April, 2025 Apple will announce that the minimum required version of Xcode will increase to a version that no longer supports building/debugging applications on iOS 12.x. Therefore, Zoom anticipates support for iOS 12.x will no longer be possible in new releases of Zoom Rooms iPad Controller application starting in early 2025.  Zoom anticipates the final Zoom Rooms iPad Controller release to support iOS 12.x will be version 6.3.5, planned to be released in January 2025.

Planned Zoom Rooms iPad Controller version 6.3.5 Release Timeline

Zoom plans to release Zoom Rooms iPad Controller version 6.3.5 in January 2025 via the Apple App Store. The precise date is not yet available; please check this article for updates in the future.

How can I check the iOS version of my deployed iPad(s)?

Customers may verify the current iOS version from the Zoom admin portal by following these steps:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Click Device Management then Device List.
  3. Change the filter All Platform OS to iOS.
  4. Review devices, including Device Name and Zoom Room Assignment.
  5. Optionally click Export to export a list of devices to CSV for further processing.

Can I continue to use Zoom Rooms iPad Controller version 6.3.5 on my iPad?

iPads using iOS 12.x may continue to use Zoom Rooms Controller for iPad version 6.3.5, forecast to be released in January, 2025. However, should any disruption occur that causes you to uninstall the app, or factory reset your device (and therefore erase the app), you may not be able to access Zoom Rooms Controller for iPad 6.3.5 from the Apple AppStore to reinstall.

Zoom Rooms iPad Controller version 6.3.5, the planned final version offering support for iOS 12.x, will eventually reach the end of support according to the Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy. The forecast date for end of support is April 2026 (subject to change). After this date (subject to change), Zoom Rooms iPad Controller versions 6.3.5 and earlier will stop operating and show a notification message instructing the administrator to transition to an alternative hardware platform supported by Zoom Rooms Controller app as soon as possible.
