How to allow audio and video permissions for the Zoom Web App when joining a meeting

When joining a Zoom meeting on the web, you must allow at least microphone access when prompted by your browser. Otherwise, you will not be heard. We also suggest allowing the camera to be seen during the meeting if you wish. To allow the web app to access these devices when joining a meeting: 

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Sign in to the Zoom Web App.
  3. Click New Meeting.
    A pop-up window will appear.
  4. When prompted to allow access to your microphone, click Allow.
  5. When prompted to allow access to your camera, click Allow.

  1. On your Chromebook, click the time in the bottom right corner, then select Settings.
  2. In the left sidebar, click Security and Privacy, then choose Privacy controls.

macOS

Allowing access to your microphone

For computers running macOS Mojave (10.14) or later, you must grant microphone access to your web browser to allow access to your device's audio.

  1. In the top-left corner, click the Apple logo .
  2. Select System Settings.
  3. Choose Privacy & Security.
  4. Click Microphone
  5. Select the check box next to the browser you're using (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge).

  7. Click OK to save your settings.

How to update your browser

Keeping your web browser up to date is important for better performance, security, and new features. It is recommended to update to the latest version when available to ensure the best video and audio experience, ensure compatibility with other features, and to maintain security.

Google Chrome

Windows | macOS | Linux

Updates typically occur in the background when you close and reopen your browser. However, if you haven't closed your browser in a while, you may see a pending update:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More
  3. Click Help, then click About Google Chrome.
  4. Click Relaunch to apply the update.
  5. If you don’t see the "Relaunch" option, you’re already using the latest version.
    Note: Chrome automatically restores your open tabs and windows when it restarts, but Incognito windows won't be reopened. If you prefer not to restart right away, click Not now. The update will be applied the next time you restart Chrome.

Android

Chrome should update automatically based on your Play Store settings. To check if a new version is available, follow these steps:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile icon.
  3. Tap Manage apps & device.
  4. Under Updates available, locate Chrome.
  5. Next to Chrome, tap Update.

iOS

Chrome should automatically update based on your Apple App Store settings. To check if a new version is available, follow these steps:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the App Store.
  2. At the top right, tap your profile icon.
  3. Scroll down to Available Updates and look for Chrome.
  4. If Chrome is listed, tap Update to install the update.
  5. If prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
  6. The update will download and install.

Safari

If a Safari update is available for your device, you can get it by updating or upgrading the operating system on your device.

macOS

  1. Open Software Update. Use Spotlight in the menu bar to search for "Software Update" and select it from the results, or click the Apple menu (), System Settings, General, then Software Update.
  2. On older macOS versions, click the Apple menu (), System Preferences, then Software Update.
  3. Software Update will automatically check for new software.
  4. If new software is available, click the Update or Upgrade button. If your Mac is up-to-date, it will notify you.
  5. Before installation begins, you'll be asked to enter your administrator password (the password you use to log in to your Mac).
  6. Your Mac might restart and show a progress bar or blank screen several times during the installation.

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Connect your device to a power source and ensure it's connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Click Settings, General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If multiple update options are available, select the one you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, and then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, refer to the instructions for recovery.

Firefox

Windows | macOS | Linux

Firefox updates automatically by default but you can always check for updates at any time.

  1. Open the Firefox menu from the menu bar and select About Firefox.
    This will open the About Firefox window.
  2. Firefox will automatically check for updates. If an update is available, it will be downloaded.
  3. Once the download is complete, click Restart to update Firefox to apply the update and restart Firefox.

Microsoft Edge

Windows | macOS | Linux

  1. In the browser, click Settings and more, Help and feedback, then About Microsoft Edge (edge://settings/help).
  2. Based on the status message on the About page, proceed with the following:
    1. If the message displayed is "Microsoft Edge is up-to-date", no further action is needed.
    2. If the message displayed is "An update is available", select Download and install to proceed.
      Note: Network charges may apply, especially if you're on a cellular network.
    3. If the message displayed is "To finish updating, restart Microsoft Edge", click Restart
