Hosting multiple Zoom meetings issues

Issue

You may need to host or join multiple Zoom meetings simultaneously, but encounter limitations based on your account type. Common issues include:

  • Receiving error messages such as You have a meeting that is currently in progress. Please end it to start a new one when attempting to start a second meeting.
  • Being unable to schedule overlapping meetings.
  • Getting prompted to end the current meeting before joining another.
  • Meetings automatically terminate when attempting to start additional concurrent sessions.
  • Confusion about which Zoom plans support simultaneous meeting functionality.

Cause

The ability to host or join multiple meetings simultaneously is restricted due to:

  • Account licensing
    • Basic and Pro accounts are designed for single meeting hosting.
    • Business, Education, and Enterprise accounts include concurrent meeting capabilities.
  • Technical limitations
    • Restrictions are implemented to manage server resources effectively.
    • Limitations ensure alignment with different business and organizational needs.

Resolution

Verify your subscription plan to ensure you can host multiple meetings

Note:

  • Basic users and Pro accounts: Limited to hosting 1 meeting at a time.
  • Business, Education, and Enterprise accounts: Can host up to 2 meetings simultaneously.

The ability to host concurrent meetings depends on your Zoom subscription plan. Do one of the following:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Plans and Billing, then Plan Management.
You can view individual tiles for each plan you have and its renewal dates.

Or

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Account Management, then Billing.
  3. Click the Current Plans tab.
You can view all of your plans on this page, and the name of each will be indicated.

Upgrade your subscription plan to host multiple meetings

If you have a Basic or Pro account and need to host simultaneous meetings, you must upgrade your subscription to Business or higher. After verifying your plan, do the following:

  1. Click Upgrade Account under Current Plans.
  2. Select Business plan or higher.
  3. Select or enter the number of licensed users you want.
  4. Choose monthly or annual billing.
  5. Complete the purchase.
  6. After upgrading, log out and log back into your Zoom account to refresh the account permissions.

Manage your concurrent meeting capacity

For organizations needing more than 2 concurrent meetings:

  1. Purchase additional licenses and assign them to different users.
  2. Contact Zoom Sales to discuss concurrent meeting add-ons (allows 4-20 simultaneous meetings).
  3. Consider using breakout rooms as an alternative for separating participants within a single meeting.

Alternative solutions for Pro accounts

If upgrading isn't feasible, Pro account users can:

  1. Use multiple licensed users: To allow each licensed user on your Pro account to host their own meeting simultaneously. You can add users by navigating to User Management > Users > Add Users
  2. Assign alternative hosts: You can schedule meetings and assign alternative hosts who can start meetings on your behalf.
  3. Use scheduling privileges: You can grant scheduling privileges to other licensed users in your organization, and they can start meetings on your behalf.
