This document provides an overview of the new Zoom VDI Client feature support within the Citrix Local App Access VDI environment. It is designed to offer a clear understanding of the features and considerations necessary for an optimal Zoom virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) experience.
Citrix Local App Access is a feature of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops that allows users to run local applications on their physical device simultaneously with virtual applications delivered from the Citrix environment.
Zoom VDI Client supports Local App Access mode starting from version 6.5.10. Once the Zoom VDI Client setup is complete, launching Zoom within the Citrix environment allows users to participate in optimized meetings using their local device's resources, while seamlessly interacting with both local and virtual applications without leaving the VDI session. This UI offloading ensures that the Zoom UI is rendered locally, interacting with local app windows, while the user can simultaneously interact with locally offloaded UI and remotely run the meeting process.
The Zoom VDI Client is also aware of mouse event handling, including clicks and scrolling, and can support multi-monitor setups, allowing users to organize their workspace efficiently. Virtual monitor support further enhances flexibility, enabling users to extend their workspace beyond physical limitations.
While the Zoom VDI Client offers full VDI functionality, it is essential to be aware of certain limitations. Currently, move and drag events are not fully supported in Local App Access mode when moving the Zoom meeting window in float-view or when the meeting is in minimized mode. Users may need to adjust their workflow, such as using the Zoom VDI Client in full-screen mode or minimizing the movement of the meeting float-view window.
Another limitation can be observed with the annotation feature, where some annotation drawings or artifacts may momentarily disappear, especially when the user switches from Local App Access mode (which is always full-screen mode only) to the windowed mode of Citrix Workspaces VDI sessions. In general, UI loading delays are observed when the user transitions the Citrix Workspaces app from Local App Access mode to Windowed mode.
These issues are known problems and are expected to be addressed in future updates of the Zoom VDI Client and Zoom VDI Plugin.
