Canceling Zoom subscription issues and unexpected charges
Issue
You may experience difficulties canceling your Zoom subscription or add-on for reasons such as:
- An unexpected charge because the plan auto-renewed and the renewal notice was missed.
- An accidental purchase (e.g., choosing Webinar instead of Large Meeting).
- No longer needing the paid subscription features.
- Changes in business circumstances (office closure, remote work ending, budget limits).
- Managing multiple accounts that resulted in duplicate subscriptions.
You may also encounter related issues, including:
- Requesting an immediate cancellation but receiving an end-of-term cancellation instead.
- Losing access to the email address linked to your Zoom account.
- Having an outstanding balance.
Environment
- Zoom paid subscriptions including Pro, Business, and add-ons
- Monthly or annual subscription plans
- Third-party purchases (Apple Store, Google Play, reseller channels)
Cause
The issue may occur due to one or more of the following:
Subscription terms and renewal Policy
- Zoom subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless canceled before the renewal date, as outlined in Zoom’s Terms of Service (see 12. PAYMENTS AND CHARGES).
- When purchasing a subscription, customers agree to a recurring plan that renews automatically (monthly or annually).
- Charges are typically non-cancelable and non-refundable once processed, in accordance with Zoom’s Terms of Service (see 12. PAYMENTS AND CHARGES).
Customer awareness and communication
- Users may miss information about automatic renewal (including renewal timing and cancellation instructions) that is provided during checkout, in the order confirmation email, and within the web portal billing of the account.
- Users may miss renewal reminders or forget about active subscriptions, even though the renewal follows agreed-upon terms.
User errors or purchase confusion
- Users may accidentally purchase the wrong add-on (example, Webinar instead of Large Meeting) due to product confusion.
- Users may be assigned an incorrect license type for their usage, leading to confusion for valid overage charges (for example, an account has an unlimited Zoom Phone plan, but did not assign it to the user incurring overage fees with their standard plan).
System or account limitations
- The self-service cancellation feature may not function correctly for certain account types or subscriptions.
Payment issues
- Payment method changes or card issues can result in outstanding balances that prevent cancellation.
Resolution
If you’ve noticed a recent charge from Zoom that you weren’t expecting, it may be related to the automatic renewal of your subscription.
These renewals are processed as authorized transactions, as outlined in Zoom’s Terms of Service (see 12. PAYMENTS AND CHARGES). However, if you believe the charge was not made by you, you should promptly contact your bank and report the issue to Zoom’s Trust and Safety team for further investigation.
