Notice of Zoom Certificate Update for Zoom Plugin Management

Due to changes to Zoom’s Windows code-signing certificate, the auto-update behavior of the Zoom Windows VDI Plugin may be impacted, and automatic plugin updates can fail in certain upgrade scenarios. This article explains the scope of the impact, which versions are affected, the behaviors customers may experience, and the recommended strategies to ensure uninterrupted VDI plugin updates.

Table of Contents

What is impacted by the change?

Zoom Windows VDI Plugin auto update. There is no impact to the VDI macOS and Linux plugins or the VDI Client.

Why will the VDI Plugin auto update fail due to the Zoom certificate change?

Currently, Zoom uses the certificate with the previous Zoom company name, Zoom Video Communications, Inc., to sign the Zoom Windows product installer files. This certificate will expire on January 13, 2026. After January 13, 2026, Zoom will begin using the certificate with the new Zoom company name, Zoom Communications, Inc., to sign Zoom Windows product installer files. However, because older versions of the Zoom VDI Plugin Management are unable to recognize the Zoom Communications, Inc. name, they will not recognize the installer with the new name.

What versions of the Zoom VDI Plugin Management may be impacted?

If the Zoom Windows VDI Plugin Management version is not one of the versions in the following qualified list (until December 2025), it will fail to recognize the certificate using Zoom Communications, Inc., and will not auto-update the VDI Plugin.

Note: This does not impact versions released after December 2025.

Version BranchVersions
6.1.x6.1.18
6.2.x6.2.14, 6.2.15, 6.2.16
6.3.x6.3.11, 6.3.12, 6.3.13, 6.3.14, 6.3.15
6.4.x6.4.10, 6.4.11, 6.4.12, 6.4.13, 6.4.14, 6.4.15
6.5.x6.5.10, 6.5.11, 6.5.12, 6.5.13
6.6.x6.6.10

Once the certificate expires in January 2026, can updating to the new certificate be deferred?

No, for the Zoom Windows Client, the certificate Zoom is using now is the previous one with the previous name (Zoom Video Communications, Inc.). Zoom requires the new certificate with the new name (Zoom Communications, Inc.) after January 13, 2026.

To avoid any issues, in the next release, Zoom will make the latest VDI Plugin version, which is still signed under the previous name, as the Recommended version for the old VDI Client. See the table below.

If the Windows Plugin Management version is not in the qualified list, what scenarios will cause issues?

Issues happen if customers are using a non-qualified Windows plugin management to upgrade the Zoom Windows universal plugin to a version released after January 13, 2026, due to that version of plugin management not being able to recognize the new Zoom company name, and the auto update will fail. Users may find that the VDI Client keeps popping up plugin auto update dialogs each time it connects to the VM, but the plugin auto update will fail each time.
Note: There will be no issue if customers are upgrading the Zoom Windows universal plugin to a version released before January 2026.

How to resolve this potential issue?

This issue can be avoided using one of the two strategies below:

Version BranchVersions
6.1.x6.1.18
6.2.x6.2.14, 6.2.15, 6.2.16
6.3.x6.3.11, 6.3.12, 6.3.13, 6.3.14, 6.3.15
6.4.x6.4.10, 6.4.11, 6.4.12, 6.4.13, 6.4.14, 6.4.15
6.5.x6.5.10, 6.5.11, 6.5.12, 6.5.13
6.6.x6.6.10

For example, if customers would like to use Windows plugin management version 6.3.10 to upgrade the universal plugin 6.3.10 to 6.6.11*, customers can upgrade the universal plugin to 6.6.10 first (the plugin management will be upgraded to 6.6.10 as well), and then upgrade from 6.6.10 to 6.6.11 (The policy AutoUpdatePluginVersion can be used to specify the plugin version to upgrade to).

*Note: 6.6.11 is a planned release at the beginning of February 2026.

Is there any determined release after January 2026?

Versions 6.4.16, 6.5.14, and 6.6.11 will be released at the beginning of Feb 2026, and the certificate with the Zoom company name will be applied. Therefore, using any non-qualified Zoom Windows plugin management to upgrade to 6.4.16, 6.5.14, and 6.6.11 will cause an issue.
