Advance Notice: Zoom Rooms End of Support for Android 8 or Older
To help organizations transition smoothly from older operating systems, Zoom is introducing an updated support framework: Android 8 or Older will no longer be supported in Zoom Rooms after the Zoom Rooms 7.0.0 release.
Support Lifecycle Overview
Zoom has long provided structured support life cycles for its software environment used with Zoom certified hardware. Historically, Zoom certified devices for Zoom Rooms and Zoom Phone followed a timeline where Zoom software for such devices were supported during their active certification period and, post-certification, entered a defined End-of-Life (EOL) phase
Applying this model to operating systems, Zoom is now phasing out support for Android 8 or Older in Zoom Rooms effective with the Zoom Rooms 7.0.0 release.
Android 8 or Older EOL Scenarios in Zoom Rooms:
Zoom Rooms-enabled devices running Android 8 or Older will no longer receive Zoom Rooms updates after the Zoom Rooms 7.0.0 release.
Zoom recommends that clients begin planning immediately. Options include:
- Upgrading to newer Android versions where supported above Android 8.
- Migrating to alternative Zoom Certified Hardware for Zoom Rooms such as Windows or macOS devices, or latest Zoom Rooms Appliances.
Zoom Software Support for Android 8 or Older Devices
The final Zoom software release for Android 8 or Older support is expected to continue to function until it falls below the minimum version enforced by the
Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy. After the final Zoom software release and until the device reaches the End-of-Support date, software support for critical bug and security fixes in the form of updates to the Final Zoom software release may be made available at Zoom’s sole discretion. These updates will support functionality on Zoom Rooms running on affected devices but are not expected to include new features or enhancements. The final Zoom software release for a particular device will eventually reach end of life based on the
Zoom Software Quarterly Lifecycle Policy.
Vendor upgrade guides/firmware links:
- Poly:
- X30/X50/X70/G7500
- The last Poly firmware release of A9 was 3.14.2. Poly is expected to have measures in place to limit customers who are updating from 3.x to only see the option to update to 3.14.2. Once they are on this version and check the update options again, they will then see the latest Poly firmware available and are not expected to have any issues updating to 4.5.2 (current firmware) or later. This will also update their ZR/ZRC app to 6.3.5 if they are on a lower version. If they are already on a new app version, their app won't be downgraded with the firmware.
