Using individual whiteboard mode in Zoom Whiteboard

Individual Whiteboard mode creates private working spaces for each participant while allowing the host to monitor progress across the entire group. It is designed to mimic the experience of each participant having their own whiteboard at their desk, even in a live Zoom meeting.

How to start individual whiteboard mode

Only whiteboard owners and meeting owners can start individual whiteboard mode. 

Start from the right toolbar

  1. In the toolbar on the top right corner of the screen, click the More tools icon , then select Individual whiteboard.

Start from the left toolbar

  1. In the toolbar on the left side of the screen, click the More tools icon , then click Facilitate, then select Individual whiteboard.

Each user is automatically placed into their own individual whiteboard space.

How to work in individual whiteboard mode

When individual whiteboard mode is active, participants and owners have different capabilities.

Participant capabilities

As a participant in individual whiteboard mode, you can:

Note: Editing remains restricted to your own whiteboard frame, similar to an in-person setup where you can look at a shared board while working privately.

Owner and host capabilities

As a whiteboard owner or the mode initiator, you can:

Note: All whiteboard owners can see every participant's board, which is useful when multiple facilitators or assistants need visibility.

How to end individual whiteboard mode

When individual work time is complete:

  1. As a whiteboard owner, click the End button to conclude the session.

All participants return to the standard shared whiteboard experience.
