Zoom has a long-standing history of supporting our customers in Education. During the pandemic, Zoom provided generous licensing donations to help schools and institutions globally to maintain continuity in teaching and learning during unprecedented times. We remain deeply committed to our educational customers and continue to do everything we can to address both administrative and academic needs as technology evolves to support flexible, engaging learning experiences.
To better align with the evolving needs of schools and institutions, Zoom is updating its education licensing. These changes will affect both K–12 (primary & secondary) and higher education (post-secondary) customers who currently use legacy EDU SKUs. As educational environments continue to rely on technology for flexible academic and administrative experiences, it’s essential that all institutions have access to the latest features, security enhancements, and support resources. This article provides key information to help educators and administrators understand what’s changing, why it matters, and how to prepare for a smooth transition.
Zoom is retiring its older legacy EDU SKUs, specifically the EDU Annual and EDU Site License plans. This change is designed to help education customers benefit from the latest platform features, simplified licensing, and improved administrative tools.
The end-of-life (EOL) for EDU Annual and EDU Site SKUs will take effect on June 30, 2026, with exceptions for Japan and Korea, where the EOL will occur in spring 2027 to align with their academic calendars. Starting July 1, 2026, new customers and customers coming up for a license renewal need to choose from one of the available Zoom Workplace for Education offerings.
These SKUs were originally designed for earlier versions of Zoom’s EDU offerings and were introduced prior to the pandemic. As our Zoom UCaaS and CCaaS platforms have evolved, newer EDU plans provide enhanced functionality and more flexibility. Consolidating plans helps ensure consistency, improved support, and access to the full suite of education-focused features.
Customers will need to choose one of the available Zoom Workplace for Education plans, including the School & Campus, and Zoom Workplace for Education Enterprise tiers.
If you are currently on a legacy EDU Annual or EDU Site plan:
No. Your users, groups, meeting data, cloud recordings, and other settings will remain intact during the transition. However, it’s recommended to back up any critical data before your plan change takes effect. Institutions with site licenses and associated student licenses will need to start separating license assignments between faculty/staff and students.
The new Zoom Workplace for Education plans may have updated pricing structures and include additional features such as AI Companion 3.0, Zoom Docs, unlimited cloud storage for Plus & Premier plans, and enhanced administrative controls.
Depending on your choice of Zoom Workplace for Education plan, customers will receive a significant list of additional benefits:
