Using the Zoom Classroom app with your LMS

After an account owner or admin installs and configures the Zoom Classroom app, teachers and students with Zoom user accounts can access it directly within their LTI 1.3-compatible Learning Management System (LMS).

This article explains how teachers and students can use Zoom Classroom after the app setup to access classroom experiences, use AI chat, share supported Zoom content, like Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards, and complete LMS role-specific teaching and learning tasks.

How to access Zoom Classroom from your LMS

After your account owner or admin configures the Zoom Classroom app with your LMS, teachers and students can open Zoom Classroom directly from their courses. From the Zoom Classroom page, users can use AI chat and available classroom features, including class meetings and related meeting content.

Teachers can access Zoom Classroom from a course in their LMS to manage class meetings and access available classroom features and resources.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher or educator account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Click Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.
    Note: The Zoom Classroom app name may vary depending on how your Zoom account owner or admin has configured the app for your LMS. If you can't find the Zoom Classroom app, contact your Zoom account owner or admin.
    The Zoom Classroom page will appear.

Access Zoom Classroom as a student

Students can access Zoom Classroom from a course in their LMS to join class meetings and access available classroom features and resources.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your student account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.

How to use AI chat in Zoom Classroom

Teachers and students with a Zoom Workplace license can use the AI chat panel in Zoom Classroom to ask questions and receive tailored responses based on the information available to them. They can also attach files to provide additional context for their prompts and access their previous AI chat conversations.

Note: You must have a Zoom Workplace license to use the AI chat panel in Zoom Classroom.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher, educator, or student account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.

    The Zoom Classroom page will appear.
  4. In the AI chat panel, enter your question in the text box.
  5. (Optional) Attach a file to provide additional context for your question.
  6. Click the send icon image of the send icon.
    AI chat will process your question and provide a response based on the information available to you.
    Note: You can also access your chat history to view previous AI chat conversations.

How to schedule class meetings from your LMS

Teachers can use Zoom Classroom within their LMS to schedule class meetings directly from their LMS. When scheduling a meeting, teachers can configure the meeting date and time, recurrence, invitees, security settings, and other available meetings options.

Schedule a class meeting as a teacher

With Zoom Classroom, teachers can create class meetings for individual lessons or recurring classes. The meeting settings configured by the teacher determine how students and invited participants join future class meetings.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher or educator account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.

    The Zoom Classroom page will appear.
  4. From the meeting panel, click Schedule.
  5. (Optional) To start an instant meeting instead, click Start meeting.
  6. Under New event, in the Topic field, enter a name for the class meeting.
  7. (Optional) Click + Add Description to enter a meeting description that will appear in the calendar invite.
  8. In the When field, choose the date and time for the meeting.
  9. In the Duration hour and minute fields, choose the duration of the meeting.
  10. In the Time Zone field, choose the time zone you want to use for the meeting.
  11. (Optional) To set a recurring class meeting, select the Recurring meeting checkbox, then fill out the Recurrence, Repeat every, and End date fields.
  12. In the Invitees field, add the students and other participants you want to invite to the meeting.
  13. In the Passcode field, enter a meeting passcode or select the Use random passcode from Zoom checkbox.
    Note: Only users with the meeting invite link or passcode can join the meeting.

    The class meeting will be scheduled and will appear as an upcoming meeting for the invited participants.

How to share supported Zoom content in your LMS

Teachers and students can use Zoom Classroom to share supported Zoom content from their Zoom account to their LMS. Depending on their role in the LMS, users can share Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards in LMS course pages, discussions, and other supported classroom activities. Shared Zoom content is accessible from the LMS, allowing users with appropriate permissions to view and interact with supported Zoom content without leaving their LMS.

Share Zoom content as a teacher

Teachers can use Zoom Classroom to add supported Zoom content from their Zoom account to course pages and other supported classroom activities in their LMS.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher or educator account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Create or open the page or supported classroom activity where you want to add Zoom content.
  4. In the editor toolbar, select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.
    Note: The Zoom Classroom app name may vary depending on how your Zoom account owner or admin has configured your LMS. If you can't find the Zoom Classroom app, contact your Zoom account owner or admin.
    The Zoom Classroom content selector will open.
  5. In the search field, enter the name of your Zoom content, or use the available filters to find it.
  6. In the search results, choose the Zoom content you want to share.
    Note: You can share Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards from your Zoom account to your LMS.
  7. Click Save.
    The selected Zoom content will be added to the editor field.
  8. (Optional) Make additional edits and configure the content access settings as needed.
  9. Save and publish your changes according to your LMS workflow.
    The shared Zoom content will be available to the LMS users who have permissions to access the page or supported classroom activity.
    Note: When viewing a shared Zoom Whiteboard from a published page or supported classroom activity in the LMS, teachers can view students' interactions with the Zoom Whiteboard and collaborate with them in real time.

Share Zoom content as a student

Students can use Zoom Classroom to add supported Zoom content from their Zoom account to course discussions and other supported classroom activities in their LMS.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your student account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Create or open the discussion or supported classroom activity where you want to add Zoom content.
  4. In the editor toolbar, select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.

    The Zoom Classroom content selector will open.
  5. In the search field, enter the name of your Zoom content, or use the available filters to find it.
  6. In the search results, choose the Zoom content you want to share.
    Note: You can share Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards from your Zoom account to your LMS.
  7. Click Save.
    The selected Zoom content will be added to the editor field.
  8. (Optional) Make additional edits and configure the content access settings as needed.
  9. Save or post your changes according to your LMS workflow.
    The shared Zoom content will be available to LMS users who have permissions to access the discussion or supported classroom activity.

How to create assignments with Zoom content

Teachers can use Zoom Classroom to create assignments that include supported Zoom content directly from their LMS. Students can then complete the assignment by attaching their own supported Zoom content, and submitted work can later be reviewed and graded from Zoom Classroom in the LMS.

Create an assignment as a teacher

Teachers can use Zoom Classroom to create an assignment with supported Zoom content such as Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards. After the assignment is published, students can view it and submit their own work from their LMS.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher or educator account.
  2. Navigate to the course or class where you want to create a new assignment.
  3. Open the assignments page and select Zoom Classroom from the list of apps or external tools.

    The assignment creation page within Zoom Classroom will appear.
  4. Click Attach.
  5. Choose the Zoom content you want to include in the assignment.
    Note: You can share Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards from your Zoom account to your LMS.
  6. Click Save.
    The selected Zoom content will be added to the assignment you're creating.
  7. Configure the assignment details, including the assignment name, instructions, due date and time, points, access settings, and other available options as needed.
  8. Click Done.
    Note: When applicable, Zoom Classroom automatically creates an individual copy of the selected Zoom content for each student. For example, if a teacher assigns a worksheet doc created in Zoom Canvas, each student receives their own editable copy.
    The assignment with Zoom content will become available to students who have permissions to access it.

How to submit assignments using Zoom content

Students can use Zoom Classroom to complete assignments by submitting supported Zoom content directly from their LMS. After submitting the assignment, the selected Zoom content is sent to the teacher for review and grading through Zoom Classroom, and the student's final grade is synchronized with the LMS grade book.

Submit an assignment as a student

Students can submit assignments using supported Zoom content such as Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your student account.
  2. Navigate to the course or class where you want to submit an assignment.
  3. Open the assignment you want to complete.
    The assignment page within Zoom Classroom will appear.
  4. Under the Submit assignment section, click Select file to add your Zoom content.

    The Zoom Classroom content selector will open.
  5. In the search field, enter the name of your Zoom content, or use the available filters to find it.
  6. In the search results, choose the Zoom content you want to submit.
    Note: You can submit Zoom Canvas docs, Zoom Clips, and Zoom Whiteboards from your Zoom account to your LMS.
  7. Click Save.
    The selected Zoom content will appear in the Submit assignment section and will be added to your assignment submission.
  8. Click Submit.
    The Zoom content will be submitted to your teacher as part of your assignment for review.

How to grade submitted assignments

Teachers can use Zoom Classroom to review turned in assignments, provide feedback, and give grades that will synchronize with their grade book in the LMS. Students can view their grades and available feedback after the teacher submits them in the LMS grade book.

Grade submitted assignments as a teacher

Teachers can review Zoom content that students submit for assignments in their LMS, write feedback, assign points, and return graded assignments to students. Submitted grades are then synchronized with the LMS grade book.

  1. Sign in to your LMS with your teacher or educator account.
  2. Navigate to your course or class.
  3. Open the assignment you want to grade.
    Note: The Zoom Classroom app name may vary depending on how your Zoom account owner or admin has configured your LMS. If you can't find the Zoom Classroom app, contact your Zoom account owner or admin.
    The assignment page will open with Zoom Classroom showing the number of Turned in, Past due, and Needs grading assignments and the list of students who needs to submit the assignment.
  4. Next to the name of the student you want to review, click Grade.
    The Student Submission page will open and show any submitted Zoom content.
  5. Review the student's assignment.
  6. In the Grade & Feedback panel, enter the student's grade and any comments for the assignment.
  7. Click Submit grade and return.
    The graded assignment and any feedback submitted will be synchronized with the LMS grade book.
